JOB DETAILS:
Makerere University seeks to fill the positions of Principal and Deputy Principal of the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) and the Deputy Principal of the College of Information Sciences (COCIS). The Colleges of Makerere University are semi-autonomous academic units comprising schools, Institutes, and departments that conduct general and professional training and research in various disciplines.

1. POST: Principal, Cedat - 1 position
The Principal is a Top Management position in the University, providing leadership to the College.

Purpose of the job
Provide strategic leadership on the College's academic, administrative, and financial matters.

Functions of a Principal
a) Be the chief administrative, academic and financial officer of the College;
b) Promote and maintain academic excellence, efficiency and good order at the College;
c) Implement University policies and enforce applicable regulations at the College;
d) Exercise such other functions as may be prescribed by the University Council.

Reporting
The Principal reports to the Vice Chancellor.
Eligibility
(i) Eligible candidates should possess the following minimum attributes:
(ii) Hold a PhD or other academic Doctorate in a relevant discipline;
(iii) Be at least at the rank of Associate Professor at the time of application;
(iv) Four (4) years of managerial experience in an institution of higher learning or a reputable research institution with a track record of having served at least as a head of an academic department or an academic programmes coordinator or research project manager;
(v) Teaching experience of at least Six (6) years in one of the disciplines offered in the College he/she intends to lead;
(vi) Applicants at the rank of Associate Professor should not be above 61 years of age at the time of application;
(vii) Applicants who are at the rank of Professor should not be above 66 years of age at the time of application;
(viii) Applicants must have demonstrable experience in networking, research and resource mobilisation.

Term of office of a Principal
The Principal is appointed for a term of four years and may be renewed for one further term.

Level of Education: Associate Degree
