Job Type: Contract (3 years renewable)
Job Overview:
Kisiizi Hospital is seeking a qualified, experienced, and dynamic individual to take up the position of Principal at the Kisiizi School of Nursing and Midwifery. The Principal will be responsible for the overall leadership, management, and academic oversight of the institution. The successful candidate will work closely with the Medical Superintendent to ensure the smooth functioning of the school and uphold high standards of nursing and midwifery education.
Essential Qualifications:
1. Education Requirements:
o Bachelor’s degree in Medical Education with a Diploma in Nursing/Midwifery.
o OR a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with a Postgraduate Diploma in Tutorship.
2. Management and Leadership Training:
o Certificate in Management (required).
o A Master’s degree in an Education-related course is desirable.
Professional Registration Requirements:
• Applicants must be registered with the Ministry of Education & Sports and the Uganda Nurses & Midwifery Council to qualify for consideration.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Academic Oversight:
o Oversee the curriculum implementation and ensure alignment with national and international standards for nursing and midwifery education.
o Lead the academic team in maintaining quality teaching practices and assessment.
2. Institutional Leadership:
o Provide strategic direction for the Kisiizi School of Nursing and Midwifery.
o Ensure adherence to academic and administrative policies of the Ministry of Education and the Nursing Council.
o Promote the professional development of faculty and staff members.
3. Student Management:
o Ensure a conducive learning environment for students.
o Address academic, administrative, and disciplinary issues.
o Guide students to achieve high standards in their studies and clinical practice.
4. Collaboration and Reporting:
o Work closely with the Medical Superintendent and other stakeholders to achieve the institution’s objectives.
o Prepare and submit regular reports on academic progress, institutional needs, and challenges.
5. Community Engagement:
o Represent the institution at regional and national meetings related to nursing and midwifery education.
o Foster partnerships with other institutions and stakeholders to improve the quality of education.
Key Competencies and Skills Required:
• Leadership and management abilities to inspire and guide staff and students.
• Strong organizational skills to manage academic and administrative duties effectively.
• Knowledge of current trends in nursing and midwifery education.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with stakeholders and students.
• Commitment to promoting the highest standards of nursing and midwifery education.
Accountability:
• The Principal will report directly to the Medical Superintendent of Kisiizi Hospital.
• The position is under the Kisiizi School of Nursing & Midwifery.
