Responsibilities
Essential Duties:
• Leads implementation and strategic thinking around conservation enterprises, private sector engagement, market linkages, business development, and small enterprise development activities
• Provides technical leadership for activities that cover identification of potential products and services, value addition, quality assurance, and linkages to broader markets for conservation-friendly products and services
• Liaises and collaborates with business management bodies, entrepreneurs, investors, relevant partners, and the GOU to enhance and engage private sector development and investment
• Leads Strategic Approach 1: Economic, financial, and social investments are linked to and incentivize conservation
• Leads the B4R partnerships and manages the B4R Strategic Investment Fund awards with several private companies in the agriculture and tourism sectors in the B4R target landscapes
• Provides oversight and technical guidance during day-to-day grantee monitoring and implementation to ensure quality assurance and timely achievement of set objectives.
• Collaborates closely with the entire technical team, especially the field officers, the Enterprise Development Specialist, and the grants team
• Ensures that private sector and conservation enterprise results of technical activities are adequately captured in the M&E plan, indicators, and reports.
• Provides technical guidance and contributions for the development of annual workplans, technical activities, reports, and communication materials.
• Shares new and appropriate private sector and business approaches, for inclusion in project activities.
• Completes any other duties/activities as directed by the COP in line with the Project’s objectives and the Employee’s abilities.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Education & Experience
• Master’s degree in a relevant field and 10 years of experience in economic growth, enterprise development, trade, or private sector development programs; or a bachelor’s degree and 17 years of experience.
• Considerable working experience with conservation enterprise programs, preferred
• Demonstrated success in implementing programs aimed at developing conservation enterprise value chains for local economic development
• Demonstrated knowledge of the latest developments in advancing good/best practices in enterprise development that reaches all stakeholders, including women, youth, and poor rural producers.
Skills & Abilities
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced and complex environment.
• Excellent computer skills including MS Office; strong presentation skills
• Willingness to travel to rural areas of Uganda
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
• Fluency in English is required.
• Ability to work well with others
• Ability to listen and communicate well both verbally and in writing
• Ability to work independently
• Attention to detail and accuracy
