JOB DETAILS:
The Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre (BIRDC) exists to provide a state-of-the-Art banana processing enterprise in Uganda. BIRDC is the successor entity of the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID) Project.
Banana Industrial Research Development Centre (BIRDC) is seeking for a highly motivated and result-oriented individual for the position of Procurement and Supply Chain Manager.
The candidate shall be under the direct supervision of the Director Corporate Affairs and Operations (DCAO) but work closely with the Director General and Finance department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
To lead the Procurement and Supply Chain teams in identifying and selecting suppliers, negotiating contracts, and managing supplier relationships; coordinating transportation, warehousing, and distribution activities to minimize costs
and ensure timely delivery.
• To ensure that the regulatory requirements of GOU are adhered to in the evaluation and award of contracts;
• To oversee the management of BIRDC supply chain to ensure materials arrive on time to meet organizational requirements
• To monitor inventory levels, track demand patterns, and implement effective inventory control strategies and drive down stock obsolescence.
• To conduct supplier performance reviews annually including price, quality and delivery performance - and monitoring inventory levels. track demand patterns, and implement effective inventory control strategies;
• To establish BIRDC'S supplier database through pre-qualification of vendors and maintain duly approved supplier database e3tapproved by the Contracts Committee;
• To benchmark and identify potential suppliers to minimize single source supply where possible.
• To. prepare yearly procurement and disposal plans and ensure they are followed and all departmental requisitions are processed
• To set up a reporting tool to deliver logistics metrics, focusing on predictability, visibility and control.
• To establish Service Level Agreements and KPi's to measure the success of the logistics work stream
• To nurture relationships with suppliers to negotiate best prices for the organization
• To effectively manage the procurement and logistics team and work with other departments to achieve organizational objectives.
Essential qualifications and
Competencies
• Master's degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management and Operations Management
• Professional qualification such as CIPS or ISM is a must.
• At least 5 years' working experience in procurement & supply chain management
• Good understanding of procurement & supply chain management principles, processes and procedures with knowledge in strategic planning.
• A proven track record of integrity.
• Working knowledge of Procurement laws of Uganda, understanding of procurement process and procedures;
• Demonstrated knowledge in managing manufacturing businesses and financial skills necessary for procurement.
• Excellent planning and forecasting, financial analysis skills
