The Sabir Lewis Foundation (SLF) is a globally minded, locally rooted non-profit dedicated to equity, justice, and inclusivity, with a core focus on supporting the most vulnerable children and youth. Our work spans protection, education, sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), gender-based violence prevention, and economic empowerment, particularly in East Africa.
Registered as a non-profit company in Uganda and a Community Interest Company (CIC) in the UK, SLF operates as an implementation hub in Uganda and an advocacy and resource mobilization hub in the UK. This dual approach allows us to amplify local voices on international platforms while securing funding and forging partnerships that sustain grassroots impact.
THE ROLE

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Program Design & Development
• Lead the design of innovative, community-driven programs aligned with SLF’s mission in SRHR, education, protection, and economic empowerment.
• Develop evidence-based concept notes, proposals, and grant applications, ensuring alignment with donor priorities.
• Strengthen SLF’s theory of change and impact assessment frameworks, integrating monitoring and evaluation insights.
• Collaborate with Uganda-based teams to ensure programs are informed by local realities and beneficiary needs.
• Identify opportunities for co-creation with donors, engaging them in program refinement and strategic alignment.
2. Fundraising & Resource Mobilization
• Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective donors, including foundations, international development agencies, CSR initiatives, and philanthropists.
• Lead grant research, writing, and reporting, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
• Diversify SLF’s funding sources, exploring social impact investments, crowdfunding, and unrestricted funding opportunities.
• Build and maintain strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations for joint funding applications and shared impact initiatives.
• Manage donor engagement, ensuring transparent reporting, impact storytelling, and relationship cultivation to enhance long-term support.
3. Advocacy & Strategic Growth
• Strengthen SLF’s global presence by contributing to advocacy campaigns, showcasing the impact of our work in East Africa to UK and international stakeholders.
• Work with the SLF team to develop communication materials (e.g., reports, presentations, donor briefs) that highlight program effectiveness.
• Identify policy engagement opportunities where SLF can influence systemic change in SRHR, education, and child protection.
• Support the SLF leadership team in strategic decision-making, ensuring organizational growth aligns with funding opportunities.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Essential Skills & Experience
• Proven experience in program design, fundraising, and resource mobilization within international development or social impact sectors.
• Strong understanding of the funding landscape in the UK and East Africa, including grants, philanthropy, CSR funding, and institutional donors.
• Exceptional grant writing and proposal development skills, with a successful track record in securing funding.
• Strategic thinker with experience in co-designing community-driven programs and developing impact measurement frameworks.
• Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to engage and cultivate donors, partners, and stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for different audiences.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting, managing multiple priorities while maintaining strong collaboration with global teams.
Desirable Skills
• Familiarity with funding systems in India is an advantage but not essential.
• Experience with innovative fundraising methods, such as impact investments or social enterprise models.
• Knowledge of intersectional and community-led approaches in international development.
• Experience in working with minority-led, Global South-based organizations.
