About the role
Restless Development Uganda is seeking to recruit a talented individual as a Programme Coordinator-Climate Justice to support the implementation and coordination of all activities relating to our project “Global Girls Creating Change (G2C2) in Uganda.
The Programme Coordinator will be supporting girls, in all their diversity, to develop the skills and capacity to engage in and lead inclusive climate action in elevating a diverse movement of girl-centered climate action to lead, shape, and inform equitable, inclusive climatepolicies and actions.
Key Responsibilities:
Programme Preparation and delivery (50%)
Supported by the Head of programmes and partnerships and Programmes Manager and working with the programme officer,
• Take responsibility for effective preparation, implementation, management and monitoring of the Global Girls Creating Change (G2C2) in Uganda project.
• Coordinate Girl-led needs assessment and evidence-building processes through identifying and supporting girls to co-lead inclusive research to analyze the current situation and barriers, local needs and opportunities to inform implementation, engaging girls to gain grounded insights that enable them to co-create their shared agenda.
• Coordinate demand driven training and skills development trajectory for girls on green entrepreneurship and climate activism.
• Conduct Community dialogues on gender norms that limit girls’ contributions to climate solutions, and how to actively engage men and boys as well as girls and women in climate activism
• Participate in the Development of girl-led climate advocacy action plans based on participatory processes.
• Actively participate in the establishment of a mentoring and coaching model to support girls and grassroots youth-led CSOs to facilitate virtual and in-person peer support groups with girls working on similar issues across borders, including girls from up to 25 Coalition Programming countries and Broker 200 matches between girls and expert mentoring and coaching networks. Mentoring aims to link (potential) girl leaders with women and girl leaders in the climate activism and innovation movement, to foster this sense of community and support and provide girls with role models who can offer guidance, advice and support to develop their skills.
• Ensure that key stakeholders at the district and National level have a clear understanding of the G2C2 programme and other Restless Development programs.
Partnership Development Management (15%)
• Ensure timely submission of reports to support timely comprehensive reports to the donor on a quarterly basis.
• Establish girls’ coalitions to lead in engaging in national platforms on matters related to climate justice.
• Elevate the established girls’ coalitions to engage in national networks, platforms and dialogues
• Coach and support a diverse cohort of girls to participate as a coalition at regional and global level to voice their priorities to decision-makers for action. Some of the global spaces to engage include COP30 in 2025, among others.
• Facilitate an inclusive process for girls to co-create a Global Girls Climate Manifesto, and translate this into an actionable advocacy plan to voice, launch and start to implement at COP30 in Brazil.
• Work with the local partners to facilitate an inclusive process for girls to co-create their climate innovations/solutions through participatory ‘lab’ process that can pitch for grants and support.
• Initiate an Innovation grant pitch competition and participatory selection process in Uganda focused on mitigation, adaptation, resilience and/or related local social and environmental challenges.
• Provide technical support, mentoring and networks opportunities that enable girls to learn, refine their innovations and seek additional scale-up funding.
• Build and maintain effective partnerships with all key stakeholders.
• Develop quarterly programme narrative reports and review quarterly financial reports, as well as leading on annual programme reports and internal programme reports.
• Lead on partnership events and activities to raise the profile of the programme.
• Develop communication materials about the programme in collaboration with the communications assistant coordinator.
• Support the development of donor expenditure reports
People Management and Development (15%)
• Ensure that the Programme Officer and girls leading on the project have clear performance objectives and development plans.
• Continually support and supervise the programme Officer through line management, support visits and performance reviews.
• In collaboration with the Programme Officer, support the diverse girls leading on the project in solving genuine challenges and communicate to programme manager as necessary
• Line manage and performance manage the programme officer
Financial Planning and Management (15%)
Work closely with the Programme Manager and Finance unit to:
• Track the project budget and develop monthly and quarterly financial reports
• Ensure that financial management is undertaken according to Restless Development policy and procedures
• Lead on generation of regular updates and reports as required
• Ensure timely disbursement of funds to the local partners that are partnering with Restless Development in implementation of the project.
Other duties as required (5%)
• Other duties as required. Occasionally working on weekends, late night in case of volunteer incidents and holidays for which time off in lieu can be taken.

Skills and experience
Essential
• Graduate-level Degree in relevant field of study (Environment, Climate, Advocacy, Social work, social sciences, development studies) or equivalent work experience.
• Post graduate in Project Planning is an added advantage.
• Experience managing and reporting against programme budgets.
• Excellent budget management skills
• Experience managing staff, including line and performance management.
• Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and manage local/national/regional partnerships.
• Ability to analyze problems and make sound operational decisions.
• Excellent organizational skills with a methodological approach to program management.
• Experience managing and reporting against programme budgets
