JOB DETAILS:
Tusuubira Women’s Development Agency (TWDA) is a nonprofit organisation which has been operating in Wakiso District for the past 15 years as a Community Based Organization under the names Tusuubira Women’s Group. TWDA seeks to recruit a suitably qualified person for the position of a Project Accountant- CAPCA Project.
Overall purpose of the position:
The accountant will contribute to the development and implementation of TWDA’s accounting systems, policies and procedures. The person will be responsible for keeping proper and up to date records on all financial transactions related to the project as per standard accounting procedures, in line with the organisational financial management policy and procedures, approved project budget and in compliance with the donor requirements. The accountant will be responsible for ensuring all payments to both service providers and staff are processed timely and with the required source documents. The post will be based at TWDA offices at Naluvule, in Wakiso District.
Key duties and responsibilities;
• Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for submission to the supervisor and authorized officers within deadlines.
• Update accounting records as and when transactions take place and ensure that proper documentation is filed for each transaction.
• Work with the supervisor and other staff during budgeting, planning and budget review/realignment.
• Conduct cash count on a regular basis.
• Provide feedback on budget versus actual expenditure, monitor budget lines, and advise key staff on status.
• Make accurate journal entries in the available accounting system.
• Conduct periodic planned field trips for support supervision of related project with the authorization of the supervisor.
• Conduct monthly reconciliations.
• Ensure all statutory deductions are withheld and paid to the relevant agencies.
• Responsible for filing of returns and payment of the relevant taxes to URA.
• And any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Experience and Qualifications:
• A degree in Accounting or a related field is required.
• ACCA/CPA Level 2 or higher is highly desired.
• A minimum of three years in finance experience in an NGO setting.
• Strong track record of leadership and proven ability to produce demonstrable results.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics accounting system is a must.
• Extensive network with the development community will be an added advantage.
• Fluency in English with excellent communication (both written and oral) skills is required.
• Experience with international donors and reporting requirements.
• Must be knowledge in MS. Word, Excel, power point and publisher.
