The Centre of Excellence for the Study of the African Child (AfriChild) is a multidisciplinary research Centre that contributes to evidence based knowledge building, skills development and influences policy, programming and practice concerning the wellbeing of the African child. The AfriChild Centre generates research that contributes to the evidence base to improve on the lives and wellbeing of the African child. It does this in collaboration with the public and private sectors, academia and civil society.

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead a UNICEF funded project at the AfriChild Centre to be implemented in 10 districts of Uganda including Moroto, Napak, Kotido, Nakapiripirit, Gulu, Nwoya, Pader, Abim, Kamuli and Iganga. Under the direct supervision of the Programmes Director - Research and Knowledge Development, the incumbent will be responsible for the production and dissemination of district specific statistical information on priority child rights issues such as teenage pregnancy, transition from primary to secondary school, child marriage and violence against children.


Duties and responsibilities


  • Lead the extraction and production of district specific data on priority child rights issues from national data management systems such as the Uganda Health Management Information System
  • Conduct statistical data analysis and develop district specific fact sheets on child rights related issues.
  • Design and develop an appropriate dashboard to store, analyze, utilize and organize data into user-friendly statistical reports.
  • Develop a detailed project plan for monitoring and tracking of progress
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
  • Ensure that all project out puts are delivered on-time, within scope and budget
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Provide regular project progress reports to AfriChild Management as needed
 QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Education

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree with in Statistics (computing option - preferred), Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or Data Mining.
  • Applicants with recognized professional ICT certifications such as MCTS SQL, MCDBA, Business Intelligence, Oracle, or related will have an added advantage.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience of with advanced data management, ensuring effective data transfers and exchanges into national systems such as the District Health Information Software (DHIS2) with a reputable organization, is required.
Experience and skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DHIS2 with ability to conduct data extraction, transformation and loading of data from different national systems is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in using Postgres SQL, Excel Pivot Tables or relational database management systems is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in writing of statistical reports
  • Proven working experience in project management will be an added advantage.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of with UBOS, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Health.
