JOB DETAILS:
Purpose of the position:
Implement field level WASH interventions in the Refugees and host community in line with project targets, national and partnership standards using effective and efficient promotion tools/approaches recommended for Uganda/Field context. The position requires passion and commitment to spend more time with the community to understand culture and value system of the community and facilitate them in the required behavioral change.
Facilitate sustainable inclusive and innovative WASH initiatives in target communities
Key Outputs/Responsibilities.
• Support WASH Engineer in the designing molds for Urine Diversion produced by a local entrepreneur with reduced costs for future implementation at household level.
• Supervise construction 4 inclusive VIP latrines separated by gender for both boys and girls in school facilities.
• Mobilized community members and Persons of Concern (POCs) on six critical requirements to ensure ownership, operation and maintenance of the water source.
• Conduct field level monitoring of construction, usage and maintenance of existing WASH facilities ensure that every facility has a trained and functional management to sustain its service.
• Carry out Hygiene & Sanitation promotion in target communities
• Lead counterparts (Sub County, district Officials, OPM and WASH partners) in identification, mobilization and sensitization of target communities to participate in WASH activities.
• Lead counterparts and partners (Health Assistant/CDO, church leaders, community and cultural leaders, RWCs), in the hygiene and Sanitation promotion activities in target communities.
• Implement hygiene promotion activities in schools to ensure adoption of hand washing practice among pupils.
• Roll out 3- star approach in primary schools to strengthen school-based WASH management.
• Conduct WASH promotion in health facilities in the respective settlement, schools.
• Develop behaviors specific hygiene messages that are inclusive for promotion of good hygiene practices and empower school structures to manage and maintain WASH facilities.
• Carry out documentation and reporting of project activities
• Timely develop weekly, monthly and Quarterly implementation plans and reports on WASH project activities in the settlement and share with the, HSO and the Manager.
• Support in providing necessary data for the development of the proposals, annual budgets and activity plans of all the software activities and ensure they’re implemented timely and are of high quality.
• Identify and document significant change stories that arise for WV WASH interventions.
• Promote partnership and integration with the Sub County and other WV projects
• Conduct basic trainings and refresher trainings as well as extend guidance and technical support to the Community based Hygiene and sanitation Promotion structures e.g. Schools, S/C staff,
• Ensure that sponsored children and Children with disabilities benefit and participate in WASH behavior practices programme interventions.
• Integration of programming with other WV projects/activities
• Collaborate, Network and represent the project at Sub County level, OPM, UNHCR, and with WASH Implementing partners.
• Participate in the district level, Inter-Agency and zonal coordination meetings as advised by the project manager
Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience.
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water and Sanitation, Public Health, Environmental Health or related discipline
• Training in project planning and management, community approaches or behaviour change
• Demonstrated monitoring and evaluation skills
• Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff in WASH technical skills
• Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
• Has experience in working with Ministry of Water and Environment(MWE) and Local Governments
• At least 3 years of experience in WASH programming, preferably focused on CLTS, CHAST, PHAST, Follow Up Mandona Approach and Sanitation Marketing
• Demonstrated ability to work in a facilitative and participative approach.
• Superior communication skills – ability to coordinate people at all levels – government partners, donors, communities and staff with diplomacy and collaboration.
• Appreciation of gender related issues
• Good budget management skills
• Computer literacy is needed
• Knowledge of GPS mapping software is n added advantage.
• Knowledge of Neglected Tropical Disease is added advantage
• Report writing skills,
• Perform other duties as required.
