JOB DETAILS:
The Project Officer in Charge of Education (CSI - II) Project is responsible for planning and implementing the education component of the CSI (II) – Objective 2 in liaison with Project Coordinator for CSI (II), Family Strengthening Programme Coordinator (FSP) and Education Programme Officer for SOS Programmes. Through his / her efforts, the access to quality formal and informal education in Koch Ongako will improve by 2021,
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
• Build the capacity of care givers and stakeholders on education matters
• Raise community caregivers’ understanding of educational programmes such that they are able to meaningfully support / participate in the education progress of their children and youth.
• Conduct termly reviews to assess educational progress and support needs of individual children and youth.
• Initiate and implement capacity-building programmes for education stakeholders including School Management Committees, Parents Teachers Associations, and Board of Governors on their role in the teaching and learning process
• Facilitate annual education performance review meetings with parents, teachers and other stakeholders
• Enhance supervision and monitoring of the 9 supported schools Organise annual stakeholders
• and consultative meetings
• In liaison with the district and Subcounty education Officers, conduct quarterly supervision and
• Monitoring of the 9 schools
• Conduct ongoing meeting with the SMCs and PTAs Improve delivery of formal and informal education Conduct annual education stakeholder is meeting
• Conduct community dialogues targeting local leaders, youth and caregivers
• Lead the identification and placement of youth for vocational and apprenticeship training
• Facilitate career guidance in supported schools
• Facilitate child participation initiatives
• Facilitate school open days Enhance the motivation of the teachers
• In liaison with the head teachers develop innovative ways of increasing the motivation of the
• teachers including enhancing the following previous initiatives developed in phase (I)
• Facilitate the 9 farmer field schools to equip teachers and children with agricultural skills
• Conduct refresher training and bank linkages of nine VSLA groups to support teachers at schools
• Facilitate two learning and exchange visits for 45 teachers from 9 schools with other ‘model schools
• Reward the best performing teachers in the 9 government supported schools Spearhead and support initiatives in fighting Violence Against Children ( VAC) in the project targeted schools
• In liaison with the Child Protection Programme Officer, Key Implementing partner, Child Protection focal person in schools conduct the following intervention in schools
• Conduct school dialogues with teachers and pupils on corporal punishment
• Conduct monthly monitoring visits to schools to follow up on cases of violence against children
• Organizing chidren's forums to express themselves on issues of violence against children
• Conduct ongoing awareness sessions for child rights clubs on violence against children at school
• Facilitate participation of children in the commemoration of Day of African child (DAC) Increase child participation in Education
• Facilitate ongoing dialogues with teachers, children and parents on child participation in education
• Provide ongoing technical support and facilitation to already existing children’s clubs in 9 schools based on the need
• Support ongoing Life skills trainings for children in 9 school clubs in planning and decision making
• Facilitate monthly school debates in the 9 supported government schools
• Facilitate the best performing children to inspire other struggling learners
• Training pupils leadership body in their roles and responsibilities
• Conduct annual football and netball competitions as a way to increase participation of the learners in the nine schools.
• Support the Implementation of psychosocial activities for children in the project targeted schools
Required Qualifications, Experience And Competences:
• A University degree in Education, Counselling, Social Work, Social Sciences and Psychology
• Experience in practical teaching or education liaison / coordination of at least 3 years in a modern, well-founded education institution will be an added advantage. Additional experience in special needs education and assessment will be an added advantage too
• Experience in managing and implementing education related programmes as well as familiar with the current education policies, trends and approaches
• Counselling and career guidance skills and involvement in music, drama, sports, or children’s clubs is required.
• Sound knowledge of child rights and child protection issues.
• Good communications skills, written and spoken English language skills.
• He/ she must be youthful, display much interest in educational matters and development of children, with a desire to help them attain greater educational and career development.
