Overview

Under direct supervision of the Content and Social Media Manager and in close consultation with the Advocacy and Campaigns Manager, the Projects Advocacy and Communication Officer will support communication, advocacy, and content management activities that will strengthen the promotion of the project interventions, raise awareness and information sharing among general population while using innovative and most suitable communication tools and support to create and produce evidence-based or data-driven content for different stakeholders. In day-to-day activities, S/he will closely collaborate with the respective project managers, Regional teams and thematic leads.

The role
Key areas of accountability include:

• Development and implementation of communication strategies and action plans for each of the projects to ensure greater visibility and public understanding of the project’s goals and results;
• A diploma in project planning and management will be an added advantage.
• Track Advocacy and Communication actions; follow up on ACCM activities, keeping notes and ensuring project communication and advocacy documents are up-to-date.
• In close coordination with the Project teams, ensure a calendar for content sourcing, development, and dissemination of timely and high-quality communication and advocacy products.
• Assist the ACCM team in sourcing information and content for local and global campaigns.
• Lead and support efficient planning and implementation of Advocacy and communication activities, organizing/attending regular project meetings and maintaining agendas.
• Support the production of communication materials and content (e.g. briefing notes, images, video, Web pages, newsletter etc.) that meet the country and global standards set out in the ACCM Strategy.
• Coordinate efficiently with vendors (design and print houses, production houses etc.)
• Assist in drafting and editing articles, press releases, human interest stories, case studies, photo stories, and other advocacy/information materials for both web-based and traditional media, as appropriate.
• Support in commissioning photography and film when required and in line with SCI policies and procedures (all consent is on file and available). Ensure branding and visibility in the materials.
• Networking and influencing
• Be available for travel to the field sites to collect case studies and undertake photography commissions and case studies, and coordinate with the photo/film team.
• Absorb high volumes of complex, incomplete and often vague information and synthesise it into concise, accessible communications products that provide appropriate levels of detail and complexity for the audience.
• Social media: work with the Content and Social Media Manager to regularly supply innovative communications to be used on internal and external social media platforms to reach and engage a wider audience.
• Maintain an up-to-date documentation center for communication materials, including publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc.

To be successful for this role you will bring/have the following:
• A minimum of Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in a relevant subject or equivalent field experience
• Diploma in project planning and management is an added advantange
• At least 3 years of relevant professional experience performing tasks similar to the required job position.
• Can produce accurate, clear and consistent information and communication outputs relating to programme support and humanitarian situation – including key messages, Q&A’s and factsheets, case studies, press releases, media statements, and briefs, amongst others.
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills for various audiences, including donors, journalists and the ‘general public’. The ability to strategically target a wide range of audiences is essential.
• Excellent relationship-building, networking and lobbying skills to work across all functions and various Members. Experience in liaising and cooperating with media journalists, government officials, NGOs and the private sector.
• Proven ability to work with communities and partners to gather case studies, testimonies and information on the humanitarian situation and programmes.
• The ability to support the ACCM team in high-pressure situations with changing deadlines and priorities.
• An initiative-taking, proactive, inspiring attitude with the ability to manage and prioritise an unpredictable workload and solve problems quickly with limited support.
• Willing to commit to Save the Children’s aims, values and principles
