JOB DETAILS:
Created in 1993, ACTED is an international non-governmental organization pursuing a dual mandate of emergency response and development interventions in 40 of some of the world’s most vulnerable countries affected by conflicts, disasters or socio-economic hardship. With a team of 7,000 national staff and 400 international staff, ACTED implements 500 projects a year to support more than 20 million beneficiaries, notably in hard-to-reach areas.
ACTED goes to the last mile through programs and approaches that look beyond the immediate emergency towards opportunities for longer term livelihood reconstruction and sustainable development. Guided by the motto “Think Local, Act Global” and its 3Zero –Zero Exclusion, Zero Carbon, and Zero Poverty – strategy, ACTED puts local territories at the centre and provides a tailored support to local needs.
ACTED Ethiopia
ACTED has been present in Ethiopia since 2019, addressing the needs of IDPs affected by drought and conflict. From its capital office in Addis Ababa ACTED operates 4 field offices across Somali, Tigray and Afar Regions providing integrated emergency response in the sectors of WASH, shelter, food security and CCCM.
ACTED in Uganda is committed to supporting the development of climate-sensitive livelihood activities, with a primary focus on agricultural activities throughout the Karamojaregion and Northern Uganda. ACTED Uganda’s actions aim to enhance resilience through climate sensing and community engagement and to support agricultural livelihoods. In 2017, ACTED opened its operations in the West Nile region tomeet the needs of the refugee populations in the region. In light of recurrent droughts and floods which drive vulnerability in Kenya, ACTED developed a strategy to support crises affected households through a three pillar approach: distributing unconditional cash, strengthening agricultural capacity and engaging civil society. As lead of the Kenya Cash Consortium, ACTED led a group of NGOs to provide immediate support to flood and drought-affected communities through the distribution of unconditional cash to improve food securityand quality of life. Parallel to this, ACTED engaged farming communities in rural Kenya to improve agricultural practices and develop climatesmart solutions to increase the adaptive capacity as a result of a changing climate. Finally, ACTED worked closelywith Kenyan NGOs through the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) Humanitarian Network to improve their ability to gather information about the impact of crises and subsequently respond to the identified needs. By operationalizing the needs based strategy, ACTED developed and implemented activities to directly address vulnerabilities arising from natural crises.
