General Summary
The Qualitative Analyst will be responsible for overseeing qualitative data collection, management, and analysis, as well as interpreting social phenomena to provide insights into human behavior and societal trends. The candidate will need to prepare progress reports on the work that has been analyzed, provide feedback on fieldwork to enhance field-based and analytic data collection and utilization. They may also lead qualitative research projects, publish findings in academic journals, and contribute to policy development. Additionally, the Qualitative Analyst will mentor junior researchers, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and present research findings at conferences as needed
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage and have responsibility for the supervision, review of progress and output of ongoing qualitative research and capacity development projects in research department and wider IDI team
2. Develop and establish new activities in this working area, and work on tools for mainstreaming qualitative work i.e. standard operation procedures (SOPs), interview guides, checklists for qualitative data collection
3. Collaborate across units in technical tasks related to recruitment and follow up of qualitative study participants while maintaining confidentiality
4. Translate qualitative tools into local language where necessary
5. Participate in key informant interviews, In-depth interviews and focus group discussions effectively and efficiently
6. Develop supervision tools to support qualitative data collection and management activities across different field teams
7. Support qualitative field teams in ensuring proper documentation of field notes
8. Periodically organize and participate in debrief sessions with qualitative field team on data collection (e.g. interviews, FGDs and observations) that have been conducted.
9. Play a critical role in conducting qualitative research, transcription, data management, data analysis, including giving timely substantive and methodological feedback on both field notes and interviews as well as contributing to revisions of instruments to reflect emerging findings
10. Support data management, coding of qualitative data (e.g. key informant interviews, in-depth interviews, FGDs and field notes). Develop common coding framework and conduct Qualitative data analysis using any software (Nvivo, Dedoose, MaxQDA or Atlas.ti) as appropriate.
11. Play a critical role in the development, writing, submission and revision of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
12. Coordinate and Contribute to behavioral Science peer group, mentor junior qualitative researchers at IDI.
13. Liaise with research team and project focal persons on issues arising from the qualitative data analysis.
14. Participate in community engagement to represent IDI in qualitative meetings or conferences meetings.
15. Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Academic Qualifications
• A master’s degree in humanities
Person Specification
• A Master’s degree in humanities (Social sciences, Social work and Social Administration, Community Psychology, Education (Arts)
• Experience in qualitative research methods, data collection, and analysis
• Proficiency in qualitative data analysis software and strong analytical skills
• Experience in leading qualitative research projects from inception to completion
• Ability to mentor and guide junior researchers in qualitative research methods.
• Skill in publishing research findings in academic journals and contributing to policy development.
• Capability to prepare clear and concise progress reports on research findings.
• Proficiency in collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to achieve research objectives.
• Capability to present research findings at conferences or other professional settings effectively
• Knowledge of health research ethics
• Training in human subjects Protection (HSP)
• Training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
• Good interpersonal and networking skills
• Flexibility
• Good team player
• Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
