JOB DETAILS:
Makerere University seeks to fill the positions of Principal and Deputy Principal of the College of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS), the Principal College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) and the Deputy Principal of the College of Health Sciences (CHS). The Colleges of Makerere University are semi-autonomous academic units comprising schools, Institutes, departments and academic centers that conduct general and professional training, teaching and research in various disciplines.

1. POST: PRINCIPAL- 2 POSITIONS - COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES (CoBAMS) & COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES (CHUSS)

The Principal is the head of a College in the University as established by Law.

Purpose of the job
To provide strategic leadership on the Collegel s academic, administrative, and financial matters.

Functions of a Principal
a) Be the chief administrative, academic and financial officer of the College;
b) Promote and maintain academic excellence, efficiency and good order at the College;
c) Implement University policies and enforce applicable regulations at the College;
d) Exercise such other functions as may be prescribed by the University Council.

Reporting

The Principal shall be responsible to the Vice Chancellor.

Eligibility
Eligible candidates should possess the following minimum attributes:
(i) Hold a PhD or other academic Doctorate in a relevant discipline;
(ii) Be at least at the rank of Associate Professor at the time of application;
(iii) Four (4) years of managerial experience in an institution of higher learning or a reputable research institution with a track record of having served at least as a head of an academic department or an academic programmes coordinator or research project manager;
(iv) Teaching experience of at least Six (6) years in one of the disciplines offered in the College he/she intends to lead;
(v) Applicants at the rank of Associate Professor should not be above 61 years of age at the time of application;
(vi) Applicants who are at the rank of Professor should not be above 66 years of age at the time of application;
(vii) Applicants must have demonstrable experience in networking, research and resource mobilisation.

Term of office of a Principal
The Principal is appointed for a term of four years and may be renewed for one further term only.

Level of Education: Postgraduate Degree
