JOB DETAILS:
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) seeks to hire a suitable candidate to fill the position of Molecular Laboratory Technologist for the Zumba study. The successful candidate will report to the Junior Investigator and will be based at CPHL Butabika.
Purpose of the Position: The Molecular Laboratory Technologist will perform molecular and serological assays for the Zumba study.

Job description
• Sample reception, organization and archiving
• Upload and move samples in Sample Data Base
• DNA extraction
• Quantitative PCR for determining Plasmodium parasite density
• Paragon library preparation and sequencing
• PCR genotyping for MSP-1, MSP-2 and PolyA to determine recrudescence and reinfection
• Preparation of amplicons for K13 sequencing
• Automated capillary electrophoresis for fragment analysis of MSP-1, MSP-2 and PolyA amplicons using QIAxcel advanced instrument
• Perform multiplex luminex assays and ELISA for malaria and other infectious diseases of public health importance

Qualifications and other desirables for the job:
• Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology.
• A Master's Degree in Molecular biology will be an added advantage.
• At least two years of working experience in a malaria genomics setting with competence in paragon library preparation and sequencing.
• Good communication and scientific report writing skills.
• Possession of a valid practicing license.
• Valid GCLP certificate.
• Good communication & interpersonal skills as well as a flexible attitude.
