Join For Water is an international non-governmental organization with over 40 years of experience. We are experts in promoting integrated water resources management to improve communities’ sustainable access to safe drinking water and sanitation. Join For Water, previously known as Protos, focuses on the conservation, protection and management of freshwater resources and their ecosystem services in different sectors. Our goal is to increase the economic and social benefits of water resources in a sustainable and equitable manner, while preserving and restoring the ecosystems of which they are an integral part.
We design and implement interventions at the local or regional level, with a focus on building local know-how and promoting better policies. Establishing and strengthening links between beneficiaries, as well as actors, knowledge institutions and decision-makers.

Overall objective of the role
Join for Water wants to receive applications from suitable and motivated candidates for the full-time position of Regional Advisor in “Protection and Conservation of Water Resources”.
The regional advisor will support the Join For Water country offices (DRC, Uganda and Burundi) and their local NGO partners on technical and methodological issues related to the protection and conservation of water resources, with a specific focus on MEAL (monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning) and mutual capacity building of partners, such as their programmatic proposal development. The position will report to the regional coordinator in the implementation of activities in the Great Lakes programme (Uganda, DRC, Burundi). The regional advisor is based in the Kampala office.
Responsibilities
The Regional Advisor:
• Acts as a point of reference on the theme of the protection and conservation of water resources in the Great Lakes region
• Supports partners in the field of monitoring, evaluation accountability and learning related to the joint programme on the protection and conservation of water resources;
• Supports partners in their institutional capacity development such as programme / proposal development, reporting and grant management.
• Contributes to the strengthening of knowledge in the field of protection and conservation of water resources by bringing together knowledge and experiences in the region, among partners and stakeholders.
• Facilitates and actively participates in knowledge sharing and support with and between Great Lakes offices and its staff, with partners and headquarters.
• Is the lead responsible for partner capacity building related to MEAL on water resources, and grant acquisition and management in the Great Lakes.
• Supports the correct implementation of the policy and thematic framework by partners and for projects in the Great Lakes.
The Regional Advisor works closely with the colleagues in the country offices (Uganda, DRC, Burundi), the country advisors at the organization’s headquarters and the advisors from other countries.
Profile
The ideal candidate has
• 5 years or more of relevant professional experience in similar roles and responsibilities, and/or working for similar environment protection/conservation organisations
• a Master’s degree in Hydrology, Land and Water Management, Natural Resource Management, Geography, or equivalent,
• Good knowledge of methodological and practical aspects of developing and supporting a programme on the protection and conservation of natural and water resources, including M&E systems.
• Good knowledge and experience in proposal development, grant acquisition and report writing in order to support partner NGOs,
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in supporting and monitoring national NGOs,
• Knowledge and experience of multi-stakeholder participatory processes,
• Smooth use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• bilingual proficiency in both French and English language
• Good planning, coordination and reporting skills,
• Good communication, facilitation and relationship management skills,
• A practical mentality ready to carry out field missions in remote areas, prepared to travel frequently within the region and internationally.

Conditions
• The initial contract of a duration of one year, renewable.
• Salary and conditions shall be in accordance with the conditions of service and salary scales of the organisation, and provided for facilitating regional/international mobility when required.
• Start date: no earlier than October 1 st 2022,
• Duty Station: Kampala, with flexibility that is required as it concerns a regional function with regards to the programme needs and the candidate’s work status and programme activities in Uganda, Burundi and DRC.

• The selection process is as follows:
• Incomplete applications will be excluded,

• Second phase of the selection with interview and practical test; interviews are scheduled for September,
• Selected candidates may be invited to a second interview.
