GOGLA is seeking to elevate the role of the Off-Grid Solar industry as the fastest, most cost-effective and sustainable way to deliver universal energy access, and through that improve lives and livelihoods, help deliver green growth in developing economies, and contribute to climate resilience and adaptation.
The main aim of the Regional Representative for East Africa is to help deliver GOGLA's sector support activities and programs and advocacy messages to national and regional government ministries and agencies across the region for an improved policy and regulatory environment that creates sustainable markets for off-grid solar companies delivering quality, affordable off-grid electricity and productive use products and services to customers in East Africa.
The Regional Representative will be expected to contribute to the development of GOGLA's policy and advocacy agenda in the region and ‘content’ for advocacy or sector support work by providing local perspectives on questions around enabling environment (including fiscal, legal, regulatory), access to finance, business development, and quality assurance.
Duration: 1 year, possibility of extension
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary range: 5500-6000 USD per month (gross)
Starting date: As soon as possible

Core Tasks:
Representation of industry interests and advocacy:
• Monitor national level policy environments.
• Promote national level policy change and develop industry positions in line with GOGLA’s global positions, in close alignment with national industry associations and other national and regional actors.
• Represent the industry’s interest vis-a-vis all stakeholders, including regular participation in local events and workshops.
Project Management and Delivery
• Lead the coordination, implementation and delivery of applicable GOGLA projects in the region.
• Supporting coordination and delivery of various other project or program activities falling under the remit of the policy and regulatory program in the region, including monitoring, reporting and evaluation of projects to donors.
• Regional Projects currently applicable in the region include: IKEA Scaling PURE Project, the Power Up Project, Community of Champions, Solar E-Waste Collective Project, ELEVATE Project.
Program Management and Delivery
• Supporting the coordination of working groups;
• Facilitating and coordinating information sharing with sector partners.
Other activities include:
• Member engagement and support.
• Key partner and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
• Management of key GOGLA projects including implementation, reporting and delivery (approx. 50% of the time).
• Leading national and regional level policy change in line with GOGLA's global positions.
About you:
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation of experience and expertise that includes:
• Bachelor’s degree in international business or similar topic.
• Experience in project- or program management and delivery.
• Expertise in the trade and investment policy formulation process and issues related to energy access.
• Strong professional connections in East Africa, the off-grid business community, and development partners.
• Familiarity with the off-grid energy sector will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 7+ years’ experience working with business, trade, or investment issues focused in Africa.
Job-related Competencies
In addition, the following work-related competencies are required for this role:
• Excellent and proven networking, communication, and presentation skills in English, command of other regional African languages is considered an asset.
• Excellent writing skills (Experience in writing reports, publications).
• Experience in Public Policy development cycle.
• Experience in policy and advocacy work or working within industry associations is an added advantage.
• Experience with fundraising and budget management.
• Project or program implementation and delivery experience.
• Strong moderation and coordination skills and ability to facilitate outcome-oriented meetings with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to think strategically and analytically, and work creatively.
• The ability to travel in the region and beyond.
• You like to work in a small, diverse, international team.
• A passion for GOGLA’s mission and ability to work in line with our values.
