Our reporters, supported by a skilled global team of editors and accuracy professionals, produce multi-lingual print and audio and photo journalism. Our audience development strategy ensures we reach the local and international stakeholders who need our stories the most.

About the Role
(For internal candidates only)
Reporters-in-Residence, central members of our global news team, produce large-scale investigative and explanatory journalism projects. Reporters in this role also support production from other journalists and fellowship cohorts, offering reporting and research as needed. Reporters in this role work in their home countries to offer news reporting that is locally sourced and includes the social, historical, cultural and linguistic context. Reporters-in-Residence are brand ambassadors, partnership liaisons and work to raise the profile of Global Press through their exceptional reporting. Reporters-in-Residence serve on annual contracts, which may be renewed based on business need and RiR’s performance.

Responsibilities:
News Production- 60%
• Report and write investigative and explanatory journalism, focused on civil liberties, global health and/or the environment
• Develop stories, rigorously report and clearly write articles in collaboration with the global editorial team
• Take part in the full editorial production process, working closely with photo, graphics and product development teams to ensure stories are produced to the highest standards

Collaborative reporting- 25%
• Support other reporters and fellowship cohorts to produce reporting and research to support other projects within Global Press Journal, engaging in fact checking tasks as needed.
• Write short articles and other content for newsletters, social media and other products to offer nuanced analysis and demonstrate interconnected trends between coverage locations

Professional Development - 10%
• Take part in regular professional development to continually advance key skill sets
• Complete required annual refresher courses on GPI Online
• Complete at least 100 hours of training per year on GPI Online and LinkedIn Learning

Brand Ambassadorship - 5%
• Serve as a brand ambassador for Global Press in your country of residence
• Actively work as a partnership liaison, placing stories in your local media in collaboration with the partnership team
• Actively post to social media and attend networking events to raise the brand profile of Global Press

Qualifications:
• Have at least 2 years of experience working in a professional newsroom
• Have a demonstrated expertise in one of GPJ’s topical focus areas, with a portfolio of at least five clips that demonstrate revelatory and exclusive coverage
• Proven history of using investigative reporting techniques and writing explanatory journalism
• Have experience working both independently and in a collaborative newsroom, contributing generously to a team as a productive and positive member
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in native language
• Experience working in an inter-cultural work environment, communicating effectively through translators and across borders
• Experience building partnerships with other media organizations
• Experience with public speaking, network and other external communications
• Ability to consistently and efficiently meet deadlines
• Current Global Press employee

Compensation and Benefits
• Africa - $15K - $35K/YR
• Asia - $15K - 25K/YR
• Caribbean - $15K - $25K/YR
• Latin America - $15K - $35K/YR

Reporters-in-Residence serve on full-time, fixed term contracts. In addition to monthly pay, they receive:
• 10 public holidays per year
• 10 vacation days per year

Application
Internal candidates for the Reporter-in-Residence role must meet all of the qualifications for the role listed above.
To apply, candidates should submit the following materials in native language or English:
• A current resume
• A cover letter describing their trajectory in the journalism profession and why they feel they are a fit for GP’s new model.
• On the 2nd page of the cover letter, include the following:

o A reporting memo, maximum 600 words, describing in detail a specific investigative or explanatory reporting project the reporter would pursue in the role. The memo should include historical context, alignment with GP’s new operating model, details of the reporting plan, visual plan, and audience engagement opportunities after publication. The project must focus on a sub-theme of civil liberties, global health or the environment. Projects pitched on other topics will not be considered.
o A paragraph describing the role of photojournalism in Global Press’ work and an assessment of their own photojournalism skills.
o A link to a portfolio of 5 clips that demonstrate both reporting and topical expertise on one of GP’s topical focus areas
o A link to a portfolio of 5 photographs that the reporter has taken professionally

Applications will be accepted from October 21-November 1st, 2024. Candidate memos will be reviewed and shortlisted by an external journalist with expertise in our core topics. Semi-finalists complete an interview with a panel of GP team members, followed by a 1:1 interview with the Editor in Chief. Successful candidates will be notified on or before November 27th, 2024. Reporter-in-Residence roles begin on January 6, 2025.
