Job Description

The IRC has been working in Uganda since 1998 supporting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), refugees and local communities. IRC Uganda has a country office in Kampala and field offices in Amudat, Imvepi, Kitgum, Kyegegwa, Lamwo, Moroto, Kiryandongo and Yumbe. Specifically, to health and nutrition, the IRC implements programming in Lamwo, Moroto, Kiryandongo, Terego, Madi Okollo and Yumbe districts. The current country program portfolio includes health and nutrition, protection and rule of law, women’s protection and empowerment, education and economic recovery and development programming.

Scope of Work
IRC with funding from UNHCR is conducting research on the Risk Factors for Early Newborn Deaths and Association with Immediate Newborn Care in Imvepi settlement to reduce the mortality among newborn children.
The Consultant will be responsible for design of research protocols and tools, data collection, analysis/interpretation, and quality research data presentation and dissemination on the Risk Factors for Early Newborn Deaths and Association with Immediate Newborn Care in Imvepi Refugee Settlement. Under the supervision and guidance of the health manager and PHO UNHCR in charge of the health implementation in the settlement of Imvepi. The consultant is expected to have an in-dependent team for this research and avail the result by the end of the period stipulated in the activity.

Duration of the research
The research is to take a period of 2 months starting from 1st of July to 30th of August 2022. This period involves the whole process of the research up to the report submission.

Roles and Responsibilities
•S/he will be expected to work within the settlement and community in the catchment population in Imvepi and collaborate with the health implementing partners in the settlement.
•Design and plausible research design and methodology.
•Developing research protocols and tools for conducting the research and coordinating with the appropriate stakeholders. Provide his or her own transport and a team to conduct this activity reaching to all the villages of Imvepi with support from the reproductive health officer and Senior community health officer.
•The consultant will monitor the quality of the data collected in the process of the activity and update on the weekly basis.
•Ensure proper documentation of the history, examination findings, investigation that are done during the period of conducting his research.
•Refer to the Senior community health officer or the Reproductive health officer on challenging cases and relevant information such as accessing the community of Imvepi in con-ducting his/her research.
•writes a complete research report with both narrative and statistical finding and submit be-fore payment is done to be published.
•Adheres to professional codes of conduct and ethics.

Qualifications
•Must have bachelor’s in medicine/Nursing or Master’s in public health or PhD in science related field.
•Must be registered and licensed with the relevant Health Professionals Council.
•Must have a clear history well documented to have conducted similar research in the time of his or her work. With demonstrable track record in public health research and publications in peer reviewed journals is an added advantage.
•Note: You will be expected to have a negative COVID-19 test prior travel for the research and provide your own transport during this activity.
