JOB DETAILS:
Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) received funding from the Government of Uganda under the Makerere University Research and Innovation Fund (RIF) to implement a research project titled “Willingness to take COVID-19 vaccine and uptake of locally adapted COVID-19 prevention measures among high-risk populations in Malaba and Mutukula points of entry”.
The purpose of the study is to assess the level of willingness to take COVID-19 vaccines among high-risk populations in Malaba and Mutukula points of entry (POE) in Uganda. Secondly, the study seeks to assess the uptake of locally adapted COVID-19 prevention measures among the high-risk populations at the two points of entry.
To fulfill this mandate, MakSPH would like to fill key positions to support project activities. Applications are invited from qualified, and competent individuals who can work with minimum supervision to join the team as Research Assistants, to support data collection in the two study districts, Tororo and Kyotera.
Reports to: Study Coordinator
Key Responsibilities in data collection in accordance with the study protocol
• Collect data from the study participants both quantitative and qualitative
• Participate in data validation to ensure the quality of the data collected
• Provide daily updates on fieldwork including interviews completed and any other important information on field data collection
• Transcribe qualitative research interviews and participate in qualitative data analysis, where applicable
• Any other duties assigned by the data collection team leaders or the study coordinator
Minimum qualification and experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Health Sciences, or any other related discipline
• Proficiency in English (both spoken and written) and at least one of the local languages spoken in the study areas (Luganda, Ateso, Kiswahili, and Adhola)
• Prior experience in conducting face to face-to-face interviews
• Prior experience in using data collection mobile applications (ODK/Kobocollect)
• Prior experience in collecting qualitative data
• Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to follow study-specific procedures and guidelines reliably
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and observe deadlines
• Possession of a Certificate in human subjects protection or Good Clinical Practice is an added advantage
Terms of service: This is a short-term engagement of two weeks.
