JOB DETAILS:
Scope of Responsibilities
• Implement commissioned research studies as an “on-ground” resource and play a supervisory role to outsourced research activities
• Work together with the Research and Development Manager and Head RMRD to generate aBi’s research agenda, plan and budget through a collaborative process involving aBi departmental leads, technical experts and academic partners
• Oversee a delegated portfolio of research projects carried out by third party providers or partner academic institutions; support partners in complying with aBi’s research standards and protocols
• Carry out market research, project feasibility studies and analysis to identify potential leverage points, risks and opportunities for disruptive change and key market players who could act as agents of change
• Administer stakeholder satisfaction surveys to support service improvement and programmed delivery to aBi beneficiaries and IPs based on results
• Keep up to date on global trends, developments, and key international issues in the key technical areas relevant to aBi work
• Development of electronic and paper-based data collection Tools using packages such as, Survey CTO, Kobo-Collect, ODK, ONA, CSpro, and COMCARE, among others
• Support Organisational Learning
• Support aBi colleagues and other stakeholders to access and utilise the results of research in a manner that adds value to their work and decision-making
• Contribute to learning activities and learning product development in collaboration with colleagues & stakeholders to facilitate effective knowledge capture and sharing
• Provide advisory support on programming; for instance, by developing and presenting trend information to both the aBi Development and aBi Finance teams
• Participate in the development and critique of new project ideas, contributing personal expertise and knowledge of research findings
• Participate in field tours to generate learning and ideas for new research areas; generate and document insights gained from field tours
• Work with the Knowledge Management Specialist to develop quality knowledge products and processes in a way that positions aBi as a Knowledge powerhouse in the agribusiness and agricultural sector
• Promoting internal and external data use through gap analysis, presenting findings and facilitating accomplishment of actions plans generated from reflection events
• Analysis and Synthesis
• Review, analyse and interpret research data; communicate findings in a manner that can be understood by the general public and decision makers
• Perform data cleaning functions on both external and internal data sets to ensure completeness and accuracy of data pieces before detailed statistical and qualitative analysis can be conducted
• Mine and analyse large programme data sets to draw valid inferences to facilitate effective reporting on progress, impact, and project learning
• Apply various quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques to transform complex macro-level datasets into easily understood actionable information insights for aBi management and programme teams
• Help colleagues to identify opportunities to use information analytics techniques and tools to improve decision-making across aBi
• Communication Advocacy support
• Work closely with the aBi Communications team to develop effective communications campaigns informed by macro and micro-level research insights
• Contribute to the development of aBi Communication Plan by ensuring that research insights are communicated & shared widely
• Work collaboratively with the R&D Manager, aBi Development and aBi Finance teams to develop compelling business cases to persuade key stakeholders to adopt aBi interventions
• Participate in the preparation of publications, policy briefs and other influencing materials
• Work with the MRM team to monitor uptake of knowledge and innovative products from research findings by market players and other stakeholders
• Play an active role in advocacy and communications by contributing to the development of strategic campaigns:
• Present work at local, regional & national conferences as delegated by the R&D Manager
• Analyse and propose data pieces that provide evidence to support desired campaign outcomes
• Develop & disseminate publications
• Represent aBi at relevant forums
• Participate in learning networks
Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development studies, Statistics, Agriculture with a focus on evaluation and research methods
• Details of experience
• At least 2 years’ experience in conducting market level applied research in agriculture, agribusiness, or a similar field
• Previous experience with research publications, concept papers and thought leadership articles
