The Learning Hub is seeking a skilled and motivated Research Officer to join our team. The Research Officer will be responsible for supporting research activities and providing administrative support to our ongoing learning activities.
• He/she will work closely with the Learning Hub team to collect, analyse, interpret, present and manage data and resources, thus contributing to the development of reports, mappings, digital solutions, events and publications. We are looking for a team player who works well independently too

Key Areas Of Accountability:
Contribute to the planning and implementation of learning projects like mappings, documentations, case studies, general data collection support, etc.
Data collection
• Propose methods for data collection (qualitative and quantitative) and develop methodologies
• Conduct mappings of actors that operate in Uganda refugee response and identify key stakeholders that can help with mapping, based on the Learning Hub’s thematic focus and learning package.
• Lead on the development of research tools like questionnaires, interview guides, google forms etc.
• Collect data through KIIs, questionnaires, feedback forms, etc. by phone, online and in person
• Use online search engines to identify and extract relevant information for ongoing activities
• Function as a research assistant during data collection and possibly conduct data collection independently liaising with the U-RIL team and refugee response stakeholders (INGOs, UN, Government, private sector and settlement level refugee response actors), and members of refugee and host communities (for instance to document best practices/lessons learned).
• Work with the U-Learn research partner (Impact Initiatives) for review of proposed methodologies and data collection tools.
Data management
• Systemise, clean, and code relevant data
• Conduct spot checks and work to identify and correct errors.
• Manage data (e.g. for mappings) from different databases e.g. Excel, Airtable, etc as seen on the Settlement-Level Actor Mapping (SLAM), Agri-tech Actor Mapping, Fin-tech Actor Mapping, etc.
• Develop and maintain databases of contacts.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date data records and databases.
Data visualisation
• Support visualisation of data using excel, or other programmes such as Airtable
• Support the preparation and presentation of research findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Administrative support
• Provide administrative support e.g. procurement requests, booking of accommodation and transport for field visits,
• Working with Save the Children procurement team to follow up ongoing procurement
• Provide varied support to the team, including support preparations for events, booking of venues for events,
General
• Participate in team meetings, field visits, brainstorm discussions, and other research-related activities.
• Provide support to senior researchers and contribute to the overall success of the research team.
• Assist with administrative tasks related to research projects, such as scheduling of interviews, coordination, and logistics.
To be successful for this role you will bring/have the following:
• At least a Bachelor’s degree (social sciences, development or humanitarian studies, knowledge management or research, or any of the relevant technical areas).
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in the research, and data management including experience with data collection and management
• Experience with administrative tasks such as procurement, planning, reporting, etc.
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills
• Solid understanding of obtaining, and working with, consent in refugee response work
• Ability to meet deadlines, set priorities, and maintain positive attitude
• Functions well in a dynamic and high paced environment
• Curiosity for management concepts, innovative approaches and new technologies
• Tech savvy with experience with interacting with online platforms and data visualisation
• Experience working as a researcher, and experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods and tools
• Knowledge of the Uganda refugee response is a plus
• Excellent data presentation skills and ability to tailor products to audience
• Experience working with an (I)NGO or other development/humanitarian actor
