Position Overview:
Educate!, a fast-growing and award-winning social enterprise, is seeking a dynamic manager to lead in the planning and execution of the Skills for Effective Entrepreneurship Development (SEED) program in Uganda. The right candidate will coordinate the team to bring agility, efficiency and quality execution to deliver a transformative youth experience
SEED is an innovative in-residence 3-week mini-MBA program for high school students modeled after western business school curricula and adapted to the Ugandan context. SEED was implemented in 2013 with 4400 S6 graduates across different regions from Uganda. The program led to significantly larger profits and larger business capital investments. Participants in the SEED program were also more likely to start enterprises and more successful in ensuring their businesses' survival.
Educate! Uganda plans to implement the SEED program for S6's at exactly the same design in May 2023.
Educate! lives a culture of impact-oriented and iterative program design based on learning and experimentation. The Program Lead will work and coordinate various teams to empower youth with entrepreneurship and work readiness skills. The right person for this role is a highly strategic planner - with experience in program and financial management and - who is energized and driven to empower multiple teams ensuring our programs create a lasting impact on students and youth.
Performance Objectives
Program Planning & Oversight (40%)
• Set and manage program goals to ensure that the program is executed efficiently and effectively to create maximum impact as per the SEED training manual
• Coordinate Program strategy elements including developing and updating work plans, calendars and budget with an eye on inclusion of learning agenda for the program.
• Conduct field visits to inform plans and strategies, especially as it relates to program quality and student impact
• Coordinate all communication between stakeholders including Educate internal team-CD, Strategist and Field Team to ensure alignment
• Generate program activity reports to ensure all stakeholders are updated
• Lead in updates and communication of all program activities to the team
• Oversee recruitment and management of SEED field team including Camp Coordinators, Field Managers etc
• Support Evaluation team in coordinating the SEED RCT including Data Collection.
• Lead project review process & produce final report to be discussed with relevant matrix team.
Performance Management (25%)
• Set SEED Monthly and Bi-annual goals and work plans to execute against program strategy (SEED Camp Guidelines and SEED Concept Note). Manage team goals.
• Lead review and setup of SEED team way of working, critical activity procedures benchmarking on SEED manual.
• Lead Meetings with SEED staff including Camp Coordinators, Field Managers Support SEED Camp Coordinator in leading meetings with SEED Camp Team
• Ensure SEED teams have goals that are aligned to SEED strategy, and are managed through weekly rocks and outputs.
• Oversee and Coordinate the recruitment, training and Capacity Building of the SEED team
Program Logistics management (20%)
• Have a logistics plan in place to support quality program implementation
• Make timely requests that follow organization procedure towards SEED goals
• Setup coordination meetings with other departments as need be for smoother Program implementation.
• Lead the planning for the Youth Entrepreneurship Training(YET) as a strategy source of trainers, auditors and potential camp officers. Including advertising, selection, training & post training placement processes.
• Coordinate with the procurement department on acquisition of venues, meals, safety requirements among others that meet good practice standards.
Financial Management (15%)
• Oversee and Manage the SEED budgets and re-allocate based on any changes.
• Approve expenses for teams based on financial policies, common cost sheet, and SEED budgets.
• Ensure timely requests and accountabilities for the team and project.
• Coordinate setup of an efficient finance process to support timely activity execution. Empower team to manage intended finance system at field level. Produce monthly reports explaining discrepancies in the Budget vs Actual, comparing budget to expense report. Submit revised project budgets to DPI and suggest budget reallocation when necessary.
• Submit projections to the Finance Department.
• Communicate at least 2 weeks in advance anticipated cash-heavy activities (mentor induction, etc..)
Qualifications
• Has earned at least a bachelor's degree (required);
• Has at least 3 years program work experience especially in project management for dynamic time sensitive projects.
• Is a critical thinker, great planner, communicator and an initiative leader
