Job Description
Job Purpose:
The Scholarly Communication Librarian will provide leadership and expertise in the area of scholarly communication, open access and open science publishing. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty, students and other library staff to facilitate the sharing of research outputs, increase the visibility of scholarship, and promote the use of digital technologies in scholarly communication and ethical use of information. In addition, the scholarly communication librarian will be responsible for managing electronic submission of dissertations and other UCU scholarly publications.
Qualifications and Experience
• Must have a master’s degree in library and information science from an NCHE-accredited program or equivalent.
• Must have experience working with electronic submission systemsfor dissertations or other scholarly materials.
• Knowledge of current issues and trends in scholarly communication, including open science and open-access publishing, copyright and fair use.
• Familiarity with institutional repositories and digital preservation best practices.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as a part of team.
• Knowledge of plagiarism prevention strategies and experience with plagiarism detection software.
• Must be a committed and practicing Christian
Key duties and responsibilities:
• Develop and implement strategies for promoting open science and open-access publishing and Scholarly communication at UCU.
• Work with faculty, students and other library staff to increase the visibility of research outputs through the use of digital technologies and institutional repositories.
• Manage the UCU Digital Institutional Repository and Open Journal Systems
• Provide guidance and training to faculty, students and staff on issues related to scholarly publishing, including copyright, fair use, and open access.
• Manage the electronic submission process for dissertations and other scholarly materials, including overseeing the use of online submission systems and ensuring compliance with institutional policies and guidelines.
• Develop and implement programs and resources to prevent plagiarism, including educating students on academic integrity and using plagiarism detection software.
• Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to develop and implement policies and practices that promote academic integrity and prevent plagiarism.
• Participate in professional development activities and stay up to date with trends and developments in scholarly communication.
