THETA-Uganda has been at the forefront of fighting HIV and AIDs.is in Uganda working at both the National, District and Community level. THETA's Mission is to improve health of the most vulnerable members of society by promoting health and preventing disease through capacity building, advocacy and research in partnership with traditional and biomedical health care systems and communities.

THETA -Uganda in collaboration with World Education inc. / Bantwana iWEl/Bi the financial support from USAID are implementing a BETTER OUTCOMES PROJECT for Children and Youth in Eastern and Northern Uganda. The purpose of the project is to improve access to comprehensive services across the continuum of HIV care and to help vulnerable children and care givers prevent and respond to HIV, violence and other adversities that impact child wellbeing in Northern Uganda, including the District of Lira, Dokolo, and Kole. THETA is an equal opportunity employer and is seeking for qualified, self-motivated and competent individuals to fill the following position;

Position: Senior Accountant
Reports to: Finance and Administration Manager

Minimum Qualifications: Degree in Business Administration with accounting or finance major from recognized institution or related field; a professional accounting profession such as CPA or ACCA is an added advantage

Minimum Experience: At least 6 years’ experience in financial management in a reputable NGO with 3 years’ experience handling USAID funding.

Work station: Lira with frequent travels to Kampala
Terms of Service: 1 Year Contract-renewable subject to performance & availability of funding


Major Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all financial systems established by THETA -Uganda (as stated in the financial policies and procedures manual).
  •  Maintain the general ledger accounts by reconciling accounts receivables and control accounts, analysing and reconciling payable ledgers
  •  Preparation of project staff payroll and payment of staff salaries.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports in time to facilitate management decision.
  •  Monitor donor expenditures as per budget and produce regular budget vs actual reports.
  •  Assist in co-ordination of the annual donor budgeting as per THETA laid down procedures and guidelines.
  •  Work closely with the Programmes team to establish the financial resources available for programme implementation.
  • Prepare financial statements for external audit exercise.
  •  Collaborate with and provide information to external auditors during audits.
  •  identify areas of weaknesses in the financial systems, and contribute to development of
  •  Ensure that financial reports produced are accurate and within agreed timelines
  •  Preparing bank reconciliations of the BETTER OUTCOMES bank account
  •  Handling the day today accounting transactions.
  •  Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor
