Job Purpose
The Senior Analyst is a key member of Samawati’s Impact advisory team with collective responsibility to develop pipeline for Impact advisory opportunities and to implement impact advisory assignments.

The post holder is specifically expected to support the Impact Advisory team in (a) implementing technical programs, advisory, research and technical assistance (TA) assignments for development organizations, foundations, international development consultancies, impact funds, DFIs and local and regional financial institutions, etc., (b) developing relationships with partner organizations to create new business opportunities nationally, regionally, and internationally, (c) manage day-to-day administrative duties to enable them in driving the goals set under our clients’ mandates and (d) where necessary, undertaking marketing related tasks which may arise.

The Senior Analyst will be responsible for supporting the critical elements of all Impact advisory tasks with key responsibilities as detailed below.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties
Project implementation and management:
Lead/support the implementation of SME development/financing initiatives including:
• Research and advisory assignments on private sector/SME development, impact investing and financial inclusion.
• Capital mobilization programs with experience in providing investment readiness support, transaction advisory and investment/credit facilitation.
• Providing Technical Assistance to Financial Institutions.
• Technical support/advisory on the structure and setup of innovative funds and investment vehicles.

Research Expertise:
• Conduct research in SME development, financing, and financial inclusion across Samawati’s sectors of focus (food and agribusiness, renewable energy/climate finance, financial inclusion, healthcare, and education)
• Conduct various country, sector and value chain research and landscape assessments to support the impact advisory workstreams.
• Conduct one-off research assignments on key themes / topics linked to business development activities of the company or any on-going client assignments.

Advisory Expertise:
• Leverage your advisory background to provide strategic insights and recommendations to enhance strategies and decision-making for our clients.
• Synthesize research findings, market analyses, and financial data in comprehensive reports for presentation to senior management, and clients.
• Support/conduct learning studies, events, and workshops for clients and partners for various implemented assignments.

Partnership and Proposal development:
• Lead/support the implementation of client acquisition strategies, which include responding to donor or partner procurements/tenders (EOIs and RFPs) and provide support in executing technical and financial proposals.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with investors, partners, SMEs, and industry experts to facilitate deal sourcing, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
• Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and forums to expand its network and visibility.

Skills and Qualifications:
Academic qualifications
• Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in finance, economics, international development, business or commerce. A master’s degree in business, finance, or development/sustainable finance will be an added advantage.

Work experience
• 4-6 years of experience in Sub Saharan Africa in Food & Agri and Renewable Energy space is preferred.
• Prior professional experience in SME development/financing and research, quantitative analysis, development consulting, or business consulting is ideal.
• Experience in financial advisory, investment readiness and transaction advisory.
• Previous experience in SME development, research, and consulting.
• Knowledge and experience in financial inclusion and investment policy development.
• Previous experience in banking and financial products’ development.
• Experience in gender, women, and youth financing.
• Ability and experience to provide digital solutions for financial inclusion, technology-enabled business models, technology services for businesses, etc.
• Experience and skilled in ESG, Monitoring and evaluation and impact measurement of projects within the Big Five sectors.
• Knowledge and networks within the public sector, investment, and development sectors

Other skills and abilities
• Strong research and quantitative analysis skills, with preference for a background in financial analysis and modelling.
• Should possess business planning skills including financial modelling and budgeting.
• Team player with interpersonal skills and ability to develop effective relationships within and outside SCP.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) at business level in English with similar ability in French being an added advantage.
• Exceptional attention to detail and interest in and enthusiasm.
• Ability to work sensitively and effectively in a multicultural setting.
