About the Role
The Challenges Group is seeking a highly skilled Senior Associate to join the Business Advisory Team, supporting the delivery of Advisory Services. The role involves working closely with the Country Lead and Program Leads to oversee and implement projects, manage partnerships, and contribute to the organization's strategic objectives.
This position requires a proactive individual with excellent leadership, project management, and business development skills, as well as a deep understanding of supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through development processes.
Role and Responsibilities
1. Project Support
• Oversee project management, including internal and external reporting, budgeting, and financial management.
• Ensure that proposal design, project delivery, and outputs align with the standards of Challenges Group and client expectations.
• Provide strong leadership for assigned projects, ensuring short- and long-term outcomes are achieved within the agreed timelines and budget.
• Monitor and report on project progress, ensuring stakeholder and partner expectations are managed effectively.
• Identify potential project risks, maintain a risk register, and develop mitigation strategies to minimize significant impacts.
• Develop market-based and system-oriented technical approaches for research and project implementation.
• Create cost-effective models for long-term support to SMEs.
2. Partnerships
• Build and nurture networks with partners, including district officials, development agencies, and private sector stakeholders.
• Identify and establish partnerships to support project delivery and pipeline growth.
• Assist with proposal development, ensuring all submissions meet deadlines and required standards.
3. Communication
• Collaborate with the Communications Team to support promotional activities, outreach initiatives, and relationship development.
• Work to expand the organization’s impact by engaging with potential partners and stakeholders.
4. Additional Responsibilities
• Support administrative tasks, including event coordination and attending meetings.
• Contribute to continuous learning and collaboration across teams within the Challenges Group.
• Support colleagues in using and improving work methods.
Person Specification
1. Education and Experience (Essential)
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position, focusing on planning, winning, and delivering business advisory services.
• Proven track record in managing partnerships and collaborations effectively.
• Demonstrated experience in project management, process development, and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience in business development, entrepreneurship, or managing SMEs through development processes is desirable.
• Experience in managing a portfolio of multi-sector projects across geographies.
• Previous experience in a consulting firm and managing consulting projects is required.
2. Skills and Competencies
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
• Networking abilities to establish partnerships across sectors and industries.
• Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Flexible and adaptable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in project development, monitoring, and evaluation (M&E).
• Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office applications.
• Established connections within the Ugandan business development ecosystem.
• Proven ability to develop concepts and proposals while maintaining client relationships.
• Strong research skills (both primary and secondary), including designing and implementing research projects.

• Ability to work evenings or weekends for networking events, if necessary.
• Proficiency in Acholi in addition to English is an added advantage.

• Contract and Compensation
• Contract Type: Permanent, full-time (40-48 hours per week), with a 3-month probation period.
• Location: Gulu, Northern Uganda.
• Salary: £8,000 – £10,000 annually.
