JOB DETAILS:
Knowledge, Skills & Competences
• Knowledge regarding secure industrial communications between PLCs using various connection options including Ethernet, wireless radio, internet and phone line.
• Considerable knowledge of electronic instrumentation, process control and electrical systems. This includes flow, level, pressure, and temperature measuring devices, control loops, digital and analog controllers, and related instrumentation.
• Advanced Knowledge of: PLC and SCADA software and hardware.
• Diagnose and make changes to PLC and SCADA software and hardware; safely and effectively operate a variety of specialized testing equipment; coach, train and direct less-experienced technicians and others on specific procedures of the work; serve as a resource to others on the technical aspects of the work.
• Have the required competencies to assemble, install, carry out preventative maintenance, repair, diagnose faults and remove and replace, and dissemble instrumentation and control systems and their associated system components.
• Be able to read and interpret relevant engineering drawings, related specifications, quality standards and equipment manuals, and to follow work instructions and relevant plans and schedules.
• Understand the types of defects and testing anomalies that can occur, how to identify them, and what action to take.
• Diagnose function and test equipment on return to service.
• Be able to handle a range of digital information, technology, and equipment to support work related tasks and to communicate information.
• Knowledge of computer hardware with programming basics highly desirable.
• Read and interpret plans, blueprints, and electrical and electronic schematics; perform applicable mathematic calculations; use applicable software applications and operating systems; manage time; use various testing equipment; problem solve; prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
Responsibilities
Over all Job Purpose
• To monitor, inspect, calibrate and maintain all the control systems and instrumentation equipment in Value Chain such as transmitters, analyzers, sensors, detectors, signal conditioners, recorders, controllers and final control elements in a way that maximises availability while optimising the cost of that availability safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.
• You will be responsible for installing, testing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining metering and recording instruments, controlling devices, data logging and display equipment and communications systems.
• Prepare and maintain a variety of records; makes verbal and written reports of work activities; and performs related work as required.
• To perform installations, enhancements and improvements to SCADA equipment, process control, communications, data acquisition, low voltage electrical, electronic, instrumentation equipment and associated hardware, including the evaluation, selection, installation, and configuration of microprocessor‐based devices.
Key duties and accountabilities
Service Delivery Dispatch
• All work on Plant Assets both installation repairs and planned preventative maintenance is executed safely and in accordance to the established schedule.
• Malfunctions in control and instrumentation systems are identified, addressed and repairs or improvements are carried out accurately, precisely, and concisely.
• The installation, configuration, calibration and maintenance of control, measurement and indicating instrumentation (pneumatic, analog & digital) is done, alongside programming Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) and Programmable Automation Controllers (PAC).
• Performance issues relating to control and instrumentation services, and equipment are reported to the Control and Instrumentation Supervisor.
Performing Work Delivery Activities.
• Standards, procedures, drawings, and specifications regarding control and instrumentation maintenance are properly utilized in the execution of activities.
• Work is carried out in accordance with the department’s generic Risk Assessments and non-generic Risk Assessments as and when required.
• Investigations related to Incident/accident and dangerous occurrences within the department are supported.
• Faults on equipment are diagnosed through inspecting and testing the operation of instruments, necessary repair done, and knowledge passed on to others.
• Various computer-based control systems are maintained and kept up-to-date with advances in technology in industry and the trade.
Reporting
• Executed works, findings, observation are properly reported on the work orders and in the CMMS. All measurements are properly recorded on controlled and updated forms.
Inventory
• Levels of non-stock items are reported to relevant Service Delivery Supervisor or the Service Delivery Manager.
Plant Status Management
• Isolations and safety devices to be applied by the Operating Team for all work are understood and checked off as being in place prior to accepting Permits to Work.
• The isolations and safety devices applied for issuing Permits to Work are explained to, and understood by, all member of the work party that will sign on to the permits.
• Plant is readied for return to service and test run under the Operator supervision, and ultimate acceptance, when repairs or maintenance work has been completed
Operational Risk Management
• Operational risks are routinely identified, evaluated and mitigation actions recommended to the service delivery supervisors where levels of risk are unacceptable to the company.
Data Capture
• Condition Monitoring Data Capture and Recording
• Condition based maintenance data is captured based on the needs specified by the Asset Performance Team.
Risk, Safety and Compliance
Compliance
• Plant is maintained in a way to meets statutory requirements. Relevant tools, machinery and equipment are used and comply with current Health & Safety Legislation.
• Calibration certificates validity for measurement tools and equipment used in the execution of service delivery activities are verified before use.
Emergency Preparedness
• Capability to respond and manage predictable emergency situations to protect value chain processes.
Environment, Health & Safety
• Policies & Procedures that ensure compliance with Environment, Health & Safety Guidelines at the facility are understood, implemented, promoted to and followed by work parties.
Maintenance Improvement
• Modifications in the facilities that improve the maintainability of Assets are detected, analyzed, proposed, and executed.

Qualifications
• Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering or other relevant field
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical or relevant field) is a strong advantage

• Three (3) years of relevant hands-on experience as a control and instrumentation technician or a related field is required.
