JOB DETAILS:
Hello Hello! Alight on behalf of Every Shelter is looking for a Shelter Depot Social Innovation Assistant. The position will be based in Nakivale (1) and Bidi Bidi(1). Shelter Depot is a model that builds on the entrepreneurial and market-participatory behaviors of refugees to accomplish enhanced shelter, WASH, and livelihood goals in a manner that is nimble and responsive to the real-time needs of refugees.
Context: Every Shelter is seeking to invest heavily in its change thesis by advancing strategic priorities in Uganda. As such, Every Shelter is in the process of registering as an INGO operating in Uganda with a fully staffed regional office in Kampala.
Central to our work in Uganda is the ongoing development of our flagship Shelter Depot program, built and run in partnership currently with our co-creative NGO partner Alight. As our relationship with Alight continues to mature, and our respective work streams become more streamlined and specialized, Every Shelter seeks to hire a Social Innovation Assistant, who will have the main objective of coordinating Every Shelter’s Adapt and Innovation activities within the Nakivale and Bidi Bidi Refugee Settlements.

Position Overview
This position will be ultimately Every Shelter’s “Point of Contact” for Adapt and Innovation activities in each settlement. This position will work closely with the Social Innovation Lead as well as the Program and Operations Assistants who will be project managing the work from Kampala.

This role will implement required activities from idea briefs, work on specific pilots, collect data, conduct stakeholder interviews, and report findings to required Every Shelter staff and personnel. Using data drawn from pilots, this coordinator will help the Social Innovation Lead and other team members make recommendations for store adaptations, product innovations, and work-for-credit modifications leading to increased store effectiveness, impact, profitability, and performance.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development and Implementation
• Work closely with Every Shelter leadership to coordinate and implement project pilots, gather information to inform pilots, and communicate with all relevant stakeholders.
• Work closing with Every Shelter leadership in the development of implementation timetables, work plans, and strategies.
• Collaborate with the Every Shelter team to update idea briefs as appropriate.
• Conduct assessments of pilot participants and report the findings legibly and clearly to Every Shelter leadership.
• Assist in key project assessments, data analysis, and data protection, to ensure project success.
• Collect human interest stories on the progress/achievements and impact of the pilot project.
• Testing and exploring prototypes, innovations and pilots by engaging community members and supporting various stages of the process.
Communication
• Communication with Every Shelter leadership
• Ensure Every Shelter leadership are fully briefed on all Shelter Depot program developments and have ample opportunity to input and guide program development. This will include regular progress reports to Every Shelter leadership, weekly evening virtual calls with Every Shelter US staff, and regular photo and video updates.
Communication with NGO partners
• Serve as an in-settlement focal point for development of partnerships that are part of the work-for-credit or relevant pilot project aspects of programming.
• Clearly communicate Shelter Depot programmatic goals to partners and navigate the path forward for joint programming.
Communication with OPM, UNHCR, and other governing bodies in the settlement
• Carefully and strategically engage with OPM, UNHCR, and other partners in the settlement to advance the interests of Shelter Depot and Every Shelter.

REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
• Must be fluent in English (written and spoken). Fluency in primary languages used in-settlement is required.
• Experience working with OPM, UNHCR and other partners.
Strengths:
• An entrepreneurial mindset.
• Extremely self-motivated and able to stay on task with remote supervision.
• A team player who can work well with others and lead by example.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
• Willingness to travel as needed around the settlement.
• Ability to walk, squat, lift heavy objects, and tolerate the conditions associated with long days (inside and outside) at the Shelter Depot site.
