Nation Media Group is Uganda's most influential media house, operating NTV, the biggest and most popular English-language television station and Spark TV, the first female-focused, and fastest growing television station in Uganda. It also operates the Daily Monitor, Saturday Monitor and Sunday Monitor Newspapers, 93.3 KFM, 90.4 Dembe FM, Nation Courier and the Monitor Business Directory.
We are looking for a qualified, experienced and result oriented professional to fill the following vacancy.
Job Title: Sports Reporter
Reports to: Sports Producer
Department: News

JOB PURPOSE:
To cover events, write and submit factual & balanced stories happening both locally and internationally in the assigned beat/title for publication in line with the NTV mandate.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To write, edit, compile and present engaging content offering new perspectives and deeper exploration to sports stories, interviews, profiles and digital content.
2. To plan, structure, write and produce content for use on television and digital platforms, develop treatments of the highest quality and with journalism at the heart
3. To pitch original stories with both TV and digital treatments, making sure that they work for online, social and TV Platforms.
4. To work closely with correspondents across the country. To have a good working relationship with NTV Sport Today, Omumuli and other Sports TV features, news bulletins, online or social.
5. To select research topics, contact and interview sources in line with the Editorial policy.
6. Manage social media presence for news gathering, distribution and branding purposes in line with the Editorial policy..
7. Use various social media platforms to provide updates and news stories to the public in line with the Editorial policy.
8. To watch commentaries to live sporting action and identify what is important or useful in order to tell a story through edited highlights. Conduct interviews with people who impact sports happenings from around the world in line with the Editorial guidelines.
9. Grow a personal profile online and exercise NMGU Editorial and social medical policies whenever posting any content on personal or company digital assets
10. Research and report on specialized projects/specialized fields as may be assigned in line with the Editorial guidelines.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Academic: University Degree in Mass Communication or any related field from an accredited institution.
Professional: Diploma in Journalism.
Experience: 1 to 2 years daily Newsroom experience, with emphasis on writing or reporting

1. Passion for writing coupled with a keen news sense. Possesses broad knowledge of local and regional issues and or depth knowledge in beat specialty.
2. Ability to work accurately and under pressure.
3. Deadline driven.
4. Computer literate.
5. Must have a good eye for detail.
6. Excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation skills.
7. Must be able to deal effectively with simultaneous tasks
