B JOB DESCRIPTION
B1 Overall purpose of the job.
• To properly plan and schedule the available pans, crystallizers and centrifugal machines in line with the crushing capacity hence minimising material congestion in the house and also ensure that quality sugar is produced with minimum losses in the final molasses.
Key Responsibilities,
1. Reporting promptly for duty at the beginning of the shift and briefly discuss the state of work with the outgoing pan supervisor.
2. 2 Prepare work programs at commencement of shift to avoid material congestion and maximize sugar production
3. Ensure that syrup and molasses liquors are boiled to the agreed boiling scheme and ensure that the final massecuites are well exhausted and brixed up before discharging them into the corrective receiver vessels.
4. Studying the pan logbooks and checking physical stock level in the respective vessels and running parameters like vacuum in pans, vapor pressure and temperature.
5. Ensure that sugar boiled confirms to the required standards such as color, crystal size, population and consistency and suggesting the changes for the improvement of operations in the shift.
6. 6 Responsible for cleaning, testing and maintenance of equipments in the section.
7. Responsible for discipline of workers in the shift and take disciplinary action as per management and union agreement and ensure that shift handover by workers is properly executed.
8. Providing significant support on ISO audits, compliance reviews and enforce housekeeping during shift operations.
C Knowledge, qualifications & Experience
C1.1 Education:
• Preferably a diploma holder in any of the following fields: Food science and technology, Chemistry,
• Industrial Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, Knowledge and experience in Sugar Processing
• A degree in any of the above fields and Knowledge and experience in Sugar Processing will be added advantage
C1.2 Experience, Skills and Competences:
• Experience is very important with skills in all pan boiling schemes (A, B& C) and ability to supervise and extract work from the shop-floor staff.
Communication Skills:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively relate with team members and the management.
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
