JOB DETAILS:
Position summary
The Sustainable Land Use and Crop Production Lead will be responsible for development and refinement of training modules and coordinating trainings on Climate Smart Agriculture, ISFM, landscape restoration including reforestation, and livestock management as part of the farming system. The Sustainable Land Use and Crop Production Lead will work closely with the Farmer Household and Farming Systems Lead to build off the household visioning and collective action and community mobilization as relates to landscape restoration. The Lead will also coordinate closely with the Market and Value Chain Development Lead who will ensure that farm households have access to agricultural inputs and output markets, through strategies tailored to subsistence-oriented and market-oriented farmers.

Main tasks and responsibilities
1. Coordinate the assessment of current CSA and SLM practices within highland farming systems to establish focus technical areas
2. Provide technical input into inception phase farming systems and crop selection assessments
3. Research needs, review existing materials and design training manual for CSA and SLM including core IFDC approaches such Integrated Soil Fertility Management
4. Coordinate the effective roll-out of CSA and SLM training to small holder farmers including demonstrations and field days
5. Ensure technical support is provided in the implementation of CSA and SLM aspects of integrated farm plans in conjunction with other technical leads
6. Provide support to identification and implementation of sustainable land management solutions in environmentally fragile landscapes in collaboration with local communities, local government and other projects
7. Work closely with other technical leads to develop strategies and interventions that support better access to input markets for crops and livestock

Required Experience
This is a senior position that requires highly motivated and self-driven individuals with the following qualifications.
• Holds a master’s degree in Agriculture, agribusiness, , natural resource management or any other related course.
• At least 5 years of experience successfully leading management of technical components of complex, results based, international or rural agricultural development programs
• Demonstrated experience (>3 years) in providing Technical Assistance on climate smart agriculture, sustainable land management, integrated farm planning and farming systems approaches,
• Demonstrated skills in effectively collaborating with local governments, research institutions, development partner projects, local organizations, private companies and other partners.
• Ability to successfully manage and develop staff as demonstrated by past experience.
• Ability to manage local partners and sub-contracts with all required reporting requirements.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally in small audience and large audience settings.
