JOB DETAILS:
The Technical advisor will work with the project manager to provide technical leadership for the GHSA CDC funded program activities in Uganda. S/he will work with the project manager and MOH to strengthen surveillance data management activities at national and sub national levels that include a centralized data Warehousing, training MOH and district-based surveillance officers in data analysis, visualization and use, promoting data use at all levels. This is a contract position and is renewable annually based on availability of funding and scope of work,
Specific Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning for and implementation of the technical aspects of the project
• Provide technical input to the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of public health policies and programs. pertaining to surveillance data management of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases particularly those with epidemic and pandemic potential at POES
• Support the program officers attached to the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to implement project activities .
• Provide technical guidance in the capacity building of surveillance officers at national and sub national level such as the training of surveillance officers on the new Integrated Disease Surveillance and Reporting (IDSR) guidelines, availing the updated guidelines
• Provide ongoing technical support to the project and MOH staff Ensure planned activities are implemented and meet Jhpiego quality standards
• Participate in supportive supervision activities
• Produce and submit project technical updates and reports
• Undertake other activities relevant to the project assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
• Degree in medicine, health sciences or related field Masters' degree in public health is a requirement
• Additional training in project management and epidemiology an added advantage
Experience and skills
• At least five years' related experience, at national level in implementation of public health projects Technical expertise in project management
• Knowledge and experience of integrated discase surveillance and reporting (IDSR) guidelines and operating mechanisms
• Good communication skills Excellent writing, verbal and interpersonal communication skills in English.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Ability and willingness to travel in the country
