JOB DETAILS:
Job Summary:
The Theater Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. Working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals, the nurse will ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of patients throughout the perioperative period.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Preoperative Care:
• Assess patients to evaluate their physical and emotional readiness for surgery.
• Prepare patients by cleaning, sterilizing, and dressing surgical sites.
• Educate patients and their families about surgical procedures and post-operative care expectations.
2. Intraoperative Care:
• Assist the surgical team by sterilizing equipment and arranging surgical instruments.
• Monitor and record patient vital signs during surgery.
• Support the surgical team by handing instruments and supplies as needed.
• Maintain a sterile operating environment and adhere to aseptic techniques.
• Perform instrument and material counts before and after procedures to ensure accountability.
3. Postoperative Care:
• Transfer patients to recovery areas, closely monitoring vital signs, surgical sites, and pain levels.
• Administer prescribed medications and manage post-operative pain as directed.
• Provide guidance to patients and families on wound care, medications, and recovery plans.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
• Accurately document all surgical procedures, patient information, and care provided in medical records.
• Communicate any complications or patient concerns to the surgical and nursing teams.
• Participate in handovers to ensure seamless continuity of care.
5. Compliance and Safety:
• Adhere to hospital policies, infection control protocols, and safety guidelines.
• Ensure all surgical equipment is properly sterilized and maintained.
• Follow proper waste segregation and disposal procedures for medical waste.
• Maintain strict aseptic techniques to prevent infections.
Qualifications:
• Education: Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
• Licensure: Valid practicing license and registration with the Nursing Council.
• Training: Specialized training in perioperative nursing is an added advantage.
• Experience: At least 2 years of experience in an operating room or similar setting.
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong understanding of aseptic techniques and infection control practices.
• Ability to work effectively in high-pressure and fast-paced environments.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
• High attention to detail and a strong commitment to patient safety.
