We are looking for a qualified, experienced and result oriented professional to fill the following vacancy.

Job Title: Visual Journalist

Reports to: Photo Editor

Department: Editorial

JOB PURPOSE:

The Visual Journalist will be responsible for creating compelling visual content that enhances storytelling across multiple media platforms. This role requires a strong combination of photography, videography, and graphic design skills to effectively communicate news, features, and editorial content. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a strong journalistic sense, and proficiency in multimedia production tools.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Capture, edit and produce high-quality photographs and videos for news and feature stories.
  • Collaborate with Reporters, Editors and Designers to create visually engaging content.
  • Develop graphics, infographics, and data visualizations to support editorial content.
  • Manage a team of Photographers and Videographers, ensuring timely content delivery.
  • Source and acquire visual content from external contributors, ensuring compliance with copyright and licensing laws.
  • Maintain an organized digital asset management system for easy retrieval and archiving.
  • Stay updated with emerging trends in visual journalism, digital storytelling and media ethics.
  • Ensure all visual content adheres to the highest ethical and journalistic standards.
  • Work closely with the social media and marketing teams to optimize visuals for different platforms.
  • Cover live events, breaking news, and special assignments, sometimes under tight deadlines.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Academic: Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Photography, Visual Arts, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in visual journalism, multimedia storytelling, or a similar role.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Experience in drone photography and videography is a plus
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and social media tools
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau or Flourish
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, After Effects)
  • Strong photography and videography skills with experience in digital and DSLR cameras
  • Knowledge of video editing, motion graphics, and post-production techniques
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple projects
  • Understanding of copyright and media laws related to visual content
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced newsroom environment
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills with attention to detail
