• Master in problem analysis, decision making, teamwork and leadership. Good human relation and communication skill, with right balance of diplomacy and firmness with Contractors.
Activities
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage all drilling operations of Tilenga Project (unique Factory drilling context with 430 wells drilled in 4.5 years on 31 different locations, 1 well delivered every 4 days with 3 drilling in a very sensitive environment) to deliver all wells safely, in time, in budget and as per expected productivity/injectivity.
• Coordinate drilling and initial completion engineering, operations and contracts for an estimated value of 1 billion USD DRILLEX (200 m$/year).
• Lead multidisciplinary operational team (drilling engineering, drilling performance and drilling supervision) located both on site and in company offices.
• Ensure operational safety leadership with regards to major incidents prevention and preparation (Blow out, well collision).
• Ensure coordination of all Contractor’s on all rig sites and company base (around 500 PAX).
Operations
• Provide remote operational management and supervision, making autonomously most of the decision when operations are deviating from plan.
• Plan, Organize, monitor, control and check coordination of all Contractors involved in Tilenga DW operations and the coordination with other Company’s entities and make the necessary operational arbitration when necessary.
• Ensure all equipment is available and ready to be sent on all rig sites to meet the activity requirements.
Engineering
• Accountable for the detailed engineering of extremely challenging extended reach wells in very unconsolidated formations targeting shallow reservoir with capacity to do so having critical impact on wells delivery.
• Accountable for Drilling engineering recommendations and preparation having a direct impact to avoid or to mitigate potential major incidents as wells are drilled through shallow gas cap and through shallow downhole faults.
• Validate drilling related DRILLEX.
• Make sure of Directional drilling, MWD/LWD, Downhole tools, Drilling bits and OCTG contracts readiness and implementation prior operation start up, and during operations. When needed, liaise with the Contracts and Cost Control departments to ensure all contracts are up to date.
• Actively participate to drilling sequence recommendation and decision based on wells design, wells trajectory and drilling pads configurations.
Performance & Digitalization
• Deeply involved in performance culture on all 3 rig sites, supported by performance dashboards to give a global view of the performances of each activity type and to give a regular update on realized performances to the rig crew.
• Promote the use of the RTOSC (Real Time Operating Center) that will ensure permanent (24/7) operation tracking and seamless exchanges of performance information between RTOC engineers and performance pusher engineers on each rig.
• Closely follow the consolidation of Drilling & Wells Cost Performance Indicators (CPI’s) & Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) used to benchmark and communicate the drilling & wells operations performance of Total E&P Uganda.
• Accountable for implementing the organizational model of the Improvement Wheel phased with the well delivery cycle (Design, Execution, Measure and Postmortem) to reach continual improvement.
• Ensure proper preparation and implementation of paperless and digitalization drilling process.
Context & Environment
• There is no equivalent project of such an industrial drilling magnitude in a remote and sensitive area within the Group today. The Tilenga oilfields are partly situated in a protected National Park, partly beneath the river Nile wetlands area, and within densely populated area in a rural and remote part of Uganda. Activities exposed to the risk of major incidents with severe potential consequences due to local environment and important presence of NGO’s. Factory Drilling with a well delivered every 4 days using 3 drilling rigs simultaneously will necessitate standardization of equipment and procedures, strict enforcement of Drilling & Well instructions, safe and efficient logistic management on site. The project is focused on delivering the lowest possible cost, which requires challenging TOTAL design concepts as well as substantially challenging the TOTAL referential.
• Multicultural environment: Contractors are anticipated to be located in various parts of the world. Ugandan rules and regulations, administrative requirements and technical authorizations as well as International codes for onshore plant will apply.
• The project is aiming for FID in 2020 with a Ready For Start-up (RFSU) target 45-50 months after FID.
