JOB DETAILS:
About the role
Restless Development is seeking to recruit a talented and dynamic individual to join our youth-led research team at Restless Development Uganda.
The Youth Researchers will conduct and lead a youth-led research project to identify the barriers young people face in relation to green jobs and develop strategies to support their aspirations. The Youth Researchers will use our Youth-Led Research Methodology.

Key Responsibilities:
Programme Support
• Attending foundation trainings for both qualitative and quantitative research
• Mobilise respondents for the research
• Carryout data collection as per the agreed-upon targets/deliverables
• Ensure high quality of data collected by cleaning it
• Carry out transcription of collected data
• Participate in the analysis workshop
• Conduct validation exercises
• Ensure the safety of fellow researchers and community members

Research Questions and Training
• Attend a 5-day training to equip you with the skills to complete this work.
• Participate actively during the training sessions and related activities.
• Provide feedback on the research tools/instruments to ensure they align with Green Jobs objectives

Data Collection
• Collect data independently, ethically, and accurately from selected community stakeholders.
• Together with your data collection team, manage and update your data collection work plan
Data Analysis and Interpretation
• Attend a 3-day analysis workshop to identify key themes arising from the data.
• Provide your own interpretation of the data collected based on what’s presented in the workshop.
• Be available for follow-up and assist in collating the findings from the analysis workshop.
Other (10%)
• Other duties as required, sometimes requiring working on weekends and holidays for which time off in lieu can be taken.

Skills and experience

Essential:
• Are between 18-30 years old.
• Are passionate and driven about youth development and the role of young people as partners and leaders in decision-making.
• Completed at least O-level education, current student or equivalent work experience in youth engagement.
• Current resident of Jinja and Nakasongola districts as a MUST.
• Fluent in English and the local language of your district.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desirable:
• Are committed to finding solutions to issues related to climate change.
• Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and analysis, including key informant interviews and focus group discussions.
• Have enough time and capacity to commit to research projects from start to finish.
• Passionate about research and climate change.
• Have some prior experience and interest in social science research around climate justice (no worries if you do not).
• Have some expertise or experience in knowledge/understanding of climate change or have been involved in the advocacy work around climate justice.
