Position summary
The Market Access and Value Chain Development Field Officer will be responsible for the roll out of training modules on post-harvest handling, including storage, to small holder farmers and farmer groups. The offier will support the Market Access and Value Chain Development Lead in building the capacity of market-oriented farmers in brokering equitable trade agreements with large commercial off-takers in the potato and other to be determined value chains. The officer will also help identify investment opportunities in infrastructure to facilitate market access and inter and intra community trade for more subsistence-oriented farmers. Finally, the officer help identify and support local entities such as seed companies and producers and agro-input delaers, to ensure that smallholder farmers have access to agricultural inputs and other services.

Main tasks and responsibilities
• Participate in value chain assessments of crops and livestock to inform the choice of strategic value chains that will be selected by the project
• Support the development of training modules for small holder farmers including Post Harvest Handling, Storage, and Marketing.
• Conduct the roll out of training modules on post-harvest handling, including storage, to small holder farmers and farmer groups.
• Identify opportunities for equitable and inclusive agreements between these key groups and market actors including off-takers
• Be the focal point with local public and private sector partners in infrastructure to facilitate market access and inter and intra community trade (feeder roads, stores etc)
• Provide support private sector actors on the development of last mile delivery systems for seed and ag inputs with that are effective in reaching small holder farmers

Position and duty station
The Market Access and Value Chain Development Field Officer is a national position with a duty in one of the 3 project office of Fort Portal(1), Kabale(1) and Mbale(1).
The position requires intensive field travels (up to 90% of the time) in the target region in Uganda.

Required Experience
• Holds a degree in Agriculture, agribusiness, business and commerce or any other related course.
• Demonstrated experience (>3 years) in providing training and capacity building support to smallholder farmers on household visioning and planning, integrated farm planning and farming systems approaches.
• Demonstrated skills in effectively collaborating with local governments, research institutions, development partner projects, local organizations, private companies and other partners.
• Willingness to work in the field on a daily basis and travel on a motorcycle
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally in small audience and large audience settings.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is required, proficiency in multiple local languages is an asset.

The Lead will furthermore identify investment opportunities in infrastructure to facilitate market access and inter and intra community trade for more subsistence-oriented farmers. Finally, the Lead will be responsible for ensuring that all smallholder farmers will have access to agricultural inputs. This includes supporting local seed companies to boost production and develop sales and distribution strategies tailored to smallholder farmers

Main tasks and responsibilities
• Ensure technical quality and provide support to project teams- in design and implementation of an inclusive market based approach that promotes market opportunities for small holder and subsistence farmer households, women and youth
• Provide technical support and oversight to value chain assessments of crops and livestock to inform the choice of strategic value chains that will be selected by the project
• Provide analysis of the equitable opportunities within these value chains for small holder and subsistence farmer households, commercial and market-oriented farmers, women, and youth
• Facilitate equitable and inclusive agreements between these key groups and market actors including off-takers
• Assess and identify investment opportunities in infrastructure to facilitate market access and inter and intra community trade (feeder roads, stores etc) and support the development of partnerships with public or private sector actors
• Assess, identify and support the development of last mile delivery systems for seed and ag inputs with private sector actors that are effective in reaching small holder farmers
• Coordinate the development of training modules for small holder farmers including Post Harvest Handling, Storage, and Marketing.
• Identify and facilitate establishment of suitable innovative digital and new technology approaches to marketing information system (MIS) finance and ag-inputs for the priority value chains.
• Implement diagnostics and assessments for evaluating market opportunities and constraints, identifying partners, and designing mutually beneficial project partnerships
• Monitor progress of work plan implementation, identifying issues (technical and coordination) and formulate solutions to address the identified issues
• Coordinate regular learning events and establishment of contractual engagements between various value chain actors

Position and duty station
The Market and Value Chain Development Lead is a national position with a duty in the IFDC field offices in the project office in Kabale.
The position requires intensive travels (up to 50% of the time) in target regions in Uganda and may require some international travel to other IFDC countries.

Required Experience
This is a senior position that requires highly motivated and self-driven individuals with the following qualifications.
• Holds a master’s degree in Agriculture, agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, international development, Business Administration or any other related course.
• At least 5 years’ experience managing and implementing market based approaches and value chain interventions for international development projects in Uganda
• Experience managing technical teams for Market and Value Chain Development , including training, capacity building, mentorship, and day-to-day management
• Experience in agriculture, food security, post-harvest handling and processing, and/or market access
• Familiarity with market based approaches, including tools, strategies, and approaches
• Strong networking skills and knowledge and contacts within the Uganda agriculture sector
• Strong training design, training delivery, and facilitation skills
• Ability to manage partners, sub-contracts and grant making programs with all required reporting requirements.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally in small audience and large audience settings.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is required, proficiency in multiple local languages is an asset.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Head of Client & Digital Marketing, the Brand, Channels, and Sponsorship Manager is responsible for developing and implementing the brand, marketing channels, and strategic sponsorship activities.

Job Description
Brand and Sponsorship management
• Manage, maintain and co-ordinate all brand-related activities and sponsorships to ensure visibility, recall/ top of mind awareness, and affinity in line with the in-country marketing roadmap
• Act as Brand Custodian within the local business and Absa's point of contact on all VI issues.
• Review/ edit content received from the Business Units for inclusion in/on all channels to ensure it resonates with current and potential customers
• To support Marketing and Communications when researching the effectiveness of channels in line with the brand ethos and goals
• Ensure that content being published in various channels align with the relevant channel policy and style-guide
• Arrange translations of content for relevant channels where required by interfacing with local vendors, obtaining purchases orders, and tracking production and payment
• To define the best country channels that ensure high levels of message penetration
• Audit/measure existing campaigns implemented on specific channels to ensure an appropriate mix, as required.
• Annually measure, review and advise on the effective utilization of channels across the country, and where appropriate, secure budget and management support for the upgrading of channels to ensure effective delivery

Channel Management (Strategy and implementation)
• Compile and deliver a country channel strategy in line with the Absa Uganda marketing strategy that most effectively supports the delivery of communications for the business.
• Ensure compliance with policies and style-guides for the various channels to ensure correct brand utilization and to maximize effectiveness of message delivery through specific channel.
• With input from the Head of Client & Digital Marketing, implement a Channel Management model that allows for correct prioritization and distribution of content in alignment with business priorities
• Implement a content production management process, clearly identifying and outlining the steps and requirements for each channel.
• Ensure that all messages published in channels align with overall business priorities and strategy in unifying customer experience according to the channel policy and style guide.
• Review and evaluate new channels on an ongoing basis to ensure world-class communications mediums are adopted at pace by staying in touch with market trends.
• Manage timely distribution of marketing material.

Relationship Management

• Provide a support service to the Communication Business Partners on the utilization of the appropriate channels for the delivery of their communications messages
• To foster relationships with quality suppliers that can deliver high-quality products for the brand
• Manage marketing production activity of all brand-related material.

Risk, Governance, and Regulatory
• Ensure all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, enterprise-wide risk management framework, and internal Absa policies and standards.
• Understand and manage brand/channel/sponsorship risks and events (incidents) relevant to the role.
