Job Description

The Play Matters - Sparking Lifelong Learning through Play aims to improve holistic learning and wellbeing outcomes for 800,000 school going children (aged 3-12+) in in refugee settlements and host communities in East Africa (Uganda, Ethiopia, and Tanzania). The project aims to impact children learning experiences in school by influencing and changing behaviors of adults’ surrounding children to incorporate playful learning into regular interactions with children at school, home and in the community.
An evidence-based approach to strengthening the skills, resources and motivation of teachers, parents, caregivers, service providers and system actors is used. The skills for teachers and education personnel are built using the Ministry of Education and Sports training structures and skills of parents and community through the social services they can access. Since November 2021, the consortium worked in collaboration with key stakeholders from Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES) and other relevant entities to generate, adapt and pilot a set of content/materials for teachers, parents, and community leaders to integrate Inclusive Learning through Play in their interactions with children. The content packages constitute of workbooks, activity cards workshop and resource guides, key messages and support supervision and monitoring toolkits. These re-sources have been tested/piloted in 44 (20 primary, 24 Pre-Primary) schools with over 60,000 learners and 600 tutors and teachers from 6 participating teacher training colleges, in 9 refugee hosting districts in Uganda.
In tandem with finalizing the pilot and subsequent plans to roll out of Inclusive Learning through Play in targeted schools, the content and materials package will be fine-tuned, consolidated, and finalized based on the feedback received from the pilot process. The final versions generated will be rolled out commencing January 2023,

Scope of Work:

The consultant will work in close collaboration with a purposively selected team of experts, designated officers from the Ministry of Education and Sports and consortium staff to provide technical assistance for facilitation, coordination and documentation of process and outputs from the systematic review, consolidation and formatting of the final version and core packages for rolling out Inclusive Learning through Play in targeted schools.

Specific Objectives:

• Organize content and materials for each of the targeted stakeholders with stipulations of appropriate key competencies, performance indicators, scope, dosage, sequence, and logistical aids.
• Document insights, good practices, and practical tips from pilot exercise for effective delivery and motivation of targeted stakeholders to take up and use the content and materials in their roles.
• Generate recommendation for branding and packaging of materials in line with national curricular and policy standards.
• Generate recommendations to strengthen plans to roll out final version of content and materials.

Activities and timeframe:

The exercise is expected to commence on the 15th of November 2022 and end by 31st December 2023
• Generate a harmonization framework, technical criteria, and tools (2 days)
• Collate, analyze, and integrate insights from pilot documentation and catalogue of all mate-rials (3 days)
• Collate and consolidate Zero draft (5 days)
• Facilitate validation sessions with relevant stakeholders and generate inputs for final version (2 days)
• Contribute to finalization, editing and formatting, of the first edition for rollout (5 day)
• Prepare overall process report and recommendations for strengthening roll out plans (3 days)

Deliverables:
• Zero version of the consolidated content/material packages -(10 days)
• Final version of the consolidated content/material packages - (5 days)
• Process and outputs report with recommendation for rollout- (5 days)

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic and technical leadership, advice, and input in the content and materials finalization process.
• Lead working sessions to consult, gather feedback and generate insights into the exercise
• Track progress, maintain an up-to-date action matrix and share information and updates, as deemed necessary.
• Coordinate documentation of process, products, and recommendations
• Produce process reports and information updates for sharing with designated leads from MOES and consortium partners.


Qualifications
The preferred candidate should the following skills and experience:

• At least 10 years of Education and/or experience in teacher professional development and management initiatives.
• Experience working with the Uganda education sector.
• General knowledge and experience of policy and curricular for pre-primary and primary school in Uganda.
• Experience of INGO working on large scale projects and especially humanitarian programming
• Demonstrated ability in technical writing, content, and materials development.
• Good interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to work with a remote team, or /and independently as needed.

We are seeking to recruit Head Teacher - Secondary to provide Christian leadership and management to ensure quality Education.

Key Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to)
• To set direction for the school to enable all learners to reach their potential, and to translate a vision into a whole Institute curriculum with consistency and high expectations.
• To build instructors commitment to professional development and manage all employee relations matters in conjunction with the HR team.
• To conduct employee performance reviews and ensure to plans, monitor and mentor teachers.
• To manage the recruitment and orientation process of new staff and provide input into the staff welfare initiatives and once agreed, supports implementation.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience.
• The applicant for the role should have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education or a relevant degree.
• To monitor curriculum, teaching, learning, and work with teaching and non-teaching staff and make recommendations for modifying them as needed.
• To manage teaching and learning to ensure that there is a high degree of consistency and innovation in teaching practices to enable personalised learning for all learners.
• To engage with networks collaborating to build curriculum diversity, professional support, and extended services to ensure a healthy balance of academic, co-curricular and life skills for learners.
• To develop the annual school's budget and administers the approved budget and school resources to ensure budgetary and cost control measures are observed in the delivery of education services.
• To maintain communication with the school authorities, parents, and community (local authorities, government agencies and wider Watoto community).
• To draw up annual schoolwork plan, calendars and manage the process of school's partnership consultation.
• The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of at least 8 years teaching experience within a large active and vibrant organisation with at least 3 of those years at leadership/administration level.
• Computer literacy
• A team player, results oriented, self-motivated, able to work with minimum supervision and for long hours under extreme pressure
• Excellent Oral and Written communication skills. Demonstrates Passion for education and Watoto children.
• Works well under pressure and strict deadlines
