About KVA
Kiryandongo Video Advocate (KVA) is a registered Community-Based Organization (CBO) operating in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement and host communities. KVA promotes community resilience through participatory video advocacy, civic education, youth empowerment, and inclusive development initiatives. We work with marginalized groups, including women, children, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and youth.
Project Background
KVA, in partnership with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), is implementing a community-based protection project aimed at:
- Enhancing access to information.
- Safeguarding vulnerable populations.
- Strengthening community-led protection responses.
Job Summary
The Protection Assistant will support protection-focused programming by identifying risks, strengthening resilience, and ensuring referrals for survivors of violence, abuse, or neglect. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful initiative backed by NRC while working with KVA’s grassroots team.
Key Responsibilities
- Protection Monitoring & Response:
- Identify, document, and refer protection concerns (GBV, child abuse, rights violations).
- Provide basic psychosocial support and protection information.
- Conduct field visits and community engagement sessions.
- Community Capacity Building:
- Support the establishment of community-based protection structures (e.g., child protection committees).
- Conduct sensitization campaigns on rights, services, and protection principles.
- Advocacy & Collaboration:
- Develop/distribute IEC materials (flyers, posters).
- Collaborate with NGOs, leaders, and government stakeholders.
- Promote inclusion of PWDs, elderly, and vulnerable groups.
- Reporting & Compliance:
- Maintain confidential case records and ensure secure data storage.
- Report urgent cases to the Protection Officer and follow up.
- Adhere to KVA’s Code of Conduct, PSEA, and Child Safeguarding Policies.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Diploma/Degree in Social Work, Community Psychology, Human Rights, or related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in humanitarian/community development (refugee settings preferred).
- Knowledge of protection principles, GBV, child protection, or human rights.
- Fluency in English; local languages (Luo, Swahili, Arabic) are an advantage.
- Strong report-writing, data collection, and case management skills.
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, email).
Desirable:
- Team player with high ethical standards.
- Culturally sensitive and adaptable.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
Safeguarding & Compliance
- KVA has a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, SEA, child abuse, or misconduct.
- Staff must uphold PSEA, Child Safeguarding, and confidentiality policies.
- Vetting processes (reference checks, signing Codes of Conduct) apply.
