Job Description
The incumbents will become part of a well-established team working with clients to understand, plan and execute effective commercial and tax strategies, assisting clients to respond to new legislation both in Uganda along with ongoing international tax reforms at the OECD level. As Senior Associates, you will ensure that the client and Firm’s expectations are met by delivering high quality services and maintaining high utilization levels.
What you will do
- Support on delivery of designated tax engagements/projects, and manage the implementation of agreed deliverables;
- Assist in the preparation of proposals/tenders and presentations;
- Generating innovative solutions on projects/engagements in collaboration with team members to enhance/renew service offerings to clients;
- Assist in developing knowledge of current tax matters across the tax function;
- Deliver client service according to relevant Deloitte standards, policies, and ethical principles;
- Carry out tax risk and opportunities reviews;
- Preparation of tax opinions, tax advice;
- Building and maintaining relationships with the clients and the Uganda Revenue Authority;
- Liaising with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) on various tax cases;
- Assisting clients resolve URA audits;
- Preparing objections and appeals to URA assessments;
- Preparing tax publications for clients and writing articles on relevant tax matters;
- Actively build business relationships that generate opportunities;
- Involvement in different tax initiatives and tasks that are run from time to time in the department; and,
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned to you from time to time.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s Degree (preferably 1st class or Upper 2nd class) in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, International Business Management, Law, Economics, or any other tax relevant field desired;
- Pursuing at least at level 2 or completed a recognized accounting or taxation qualification such as Certified Public Accountants (CPA), Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT), Post Graduate Diploma in Tax and Revenue Administration (PODITRA) or Certified Tax Advisor (CTA) is an added advantage;
- Minimum of three (3) years previous tax experience, ideally with international businesses in industry, tax revenue authority or a professional service firm;
- Work experience of at least two (2) years in a professional services firm or Tax Authority is an added advantage;
- Technical expertise in Tax matters;
- Good knowledge of international and national taxation principles;
- Proficiency in computer applications (Excel, Word, Power Point etc.); and
- Be a Ugandan citizen or eligible to work in Uganda.
