JOB DETAILS:
17 Firefighter Trainee
JOB PURPOSE
To participate in saving life and minimizing damage to property in the event of aircraft/ non-aircraft accidents or disasters on and off airport.
Operational Efficiency
• Promote safe working practices as per the safety policy and safe systems of work.
• Maintain operational competency through participation in RFFS maintenance of competency programs.
• Drive and operate all fire vehicles and associated equipment.
• Administer/provide first aid treatment as necessary.
• Render assistance at non-flying accidents and incidents within and outside the airport boundaries as permitted by operations.
• Provide fire cover for aircraft engine starts, and other special service requests
• Carry out vehicle daily inspections as laid down in the airport fire service policy.
• Maintain the cleanliness of all fire vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the fire station and its environs.
• Undertake watch room duties and maintain the watch log.
• Liaise with air traffic control to ensure that safe operations are maintained within the maneuvering
• areas and movement areas.
• Participate in drills and exercises both locally and those involving outside emergency services.
• Check the serviceability of airport hydrants, fire alarm systems and fire extinguishers and report their serviceability state as required.
• Carry out serviceability checks off and operate all equipment associated with the RFFS operations.
• Undertake any other duties of a similar responsibility level commensurate to the role as may be prescribed from time to time.
• Undertake extraneous duties commensurate to the role as described by the Supervisor.
Safety
• Comply with RFFS policy and procedures.
• Act to eliminate or reduce risks associated with the RFFS functions.
• Ensure operational requests are promptly and safely dealt with.
• Ensure RFFS extraneous duties are conducted to the highest possible standards, thus safeguarding the aerodrome and operations.
Customer Satisfaction
Maintain an environment that reassures staff, passengers and customers that their safety and security are a primary concern.
Ensure that customer interaction is efficient and accurate to the needs of the service
Receive and respond to all external training requests in an informative and professional manner.
Ensure customer satisfaction in relation to service performance
Relationships
Work closely with fire station personnel and other airport staff
Liaise with fire supervisory staff, other airport departments, and airport operating companies, internal and external customers.
Maintain daily contact with all key staff whose roles contribute to service delivery
Health and Safety
Take reasonable care of the health and safety of self and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.
Co-operate with the management as far as is necessary so that the organization can carry out its statutory duty under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2006.
Not intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare.
Ensure that all relevant Risk Assessments are suitable for the activities involved and are regularly reviewed.
Other duties delegated by the Supervisor
Remain cooperative and accept adhoc fire related duties.
Qualifications/ Requirements
• A- Level Certificate with at least two principal passes and five credits at OLevel of which two must be in English and Mathematics.
• Must be proficient in Computer applications.
• Must have ability to drive and in possession of a valid driving permit.
• Qualifications in any of the following: Firefighting, Emergency First Response, Open Water Life Saving, Diving, Nursing and Mechanical Engineering is an added advantage.
• Must have effective customer service techniques and knowledge on the aviation industry development and trends.
• Knowledge and understanding of airport safety requirements and practices, relevant aviation laws, ICAO standards and CAA regulations.
• Must pass the RFFS Physical and Medical Fitness Tests.
• Must have proven ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
• Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication and public relations skills.
• Must be between 22 and 30 years of age.
