Job Summary/Purpose
The Senior Investment Manager – Infrastructure is tasked with originating and building a robust pipeline of investment opportunities in the infrastructure sector. This role involves structuring investments, managing a diverse portfolio, and nurturing relationships with clients and stakeholders to ensure sustainable and impactful interventions. The incumbent will leverage their deep sector knowledge to identify trends and opportunities while ensuring the Bank's strategic objectives are met through effective project financing and risk management.
Accountability Statement
The Senior Investment Manager – Infrastructure is responsible for:
• Originating and managing a pipeline of infrastructure investments.
• Structuring deals and overseeing project financing within the infrastructure sector.
• Conducting thorough due diligence and risk assessments.
• Leading stakeholder engagements to ensure impactful and sustainable sector growth.
• Contributing to the Bank's High Impact Goals (HIGs) by implementing strategies to support infrastructure development.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Development:
• Develop, review, and implement the Bank’s strategy for infrastructure investments.
• Position UDBL as a key partner for infrastructure sector stakeholders.
• Provide strategic advice to management on enhancing the Bank’s role in supporting infrastructure development.
Project Origination and Development:
• Generate and evaluate fundable projects in the infrastructure sector.
• Conduct technical assessments for all infrastructure projects and advise on feasibility.
• Design and propose new products tailored to meet the needs of clients within debt financing.
Customer Engagement:
• Undertake outreach programs and provide business advisory services to clients.
• Maintain effective communication with customers, prospective clients, and stakeholders.
Financial Structuring and Risk Management:
• Structure investments across the financing spectrum, particularly in project finance debt.
• Conduct detailed investment analysis and appraisal of project proposals.
• Ensure compliance with the Bank’s Credit Risk Management Policy.
• Monitor credit risks, borrower performance, and project outcomes.
• Conduct regular site visits to assess borrower progress and identify risks.
Monitoring and Reporting:
• Coordinate implementation of investments, including monitoring project performance and loan repayments.
• Provide detailed portfolio reports to management with recommendations for action.
Leadership and Mentorship:
• Mentor and develop junior staff, fostering a team-oriented environment.
• Promote knowledge-sharing within the department.
Level of Authority
• Represent UDBL in engagements with customers and prospective clients.
• Advise management on infrastructure portfolio performance and strategic interventions.
Relationships
• Internal: Collaborate with all UDBL staff.
• External: Engage with stakeholders, business associations, customers, and prospective clients.
Qualifications
• Master’s Degree: Business or relevant field (mandatory).
• Bachelor’s Degree: Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Quantitative Economics, Commerce, or related fields.
• A relevant postgraduate qualification in business or finance is an added advantage.
Experience
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing infrastructure projects, project financing, or related fields.
• Proven experience in technical risk assessments of infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated expertise in investment appraisal, analysis, and implementation.
Key Competencies
• Sector Knowledge: Strong understanding of infrastructure sectors such as energy, transport, water, and ICT.
• Infrastructure Expertise: Familiarity with project financing, tariffs, offtake agreements, and sustainable infrastructure practices.
• Technical Skills:
o Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
o Ability to assess technical risks and align projects with modern, sustainable infrastructure needs.
• Leadership:
o Proven ability to mentor and motivate teams.
o Capable of driving projects to meet strict timelines.
• Interpersonal Skills:
o Strong negotiation and networking skills.
o Excellent customer service orientation.
o Results-driven with a proven track record in successful project delivery.
