We sell products under our SmartHome brand, and through partnerships with other brands. We operate regional distribution hubs and build relationships directly with customers through the SmartHome sales operation. We’ve seen 100%+ year on year growth for years and have reached over 800,000 African households with products that deliver health and income benefits. A typical Smarthome stove saves each family we reach about 9% of their annual income while reducing air pollution.
UpEnergy has a 10-year track record of building projects that overperform expectations in the generation of emissions reductions, and that deliver on our performance promises to our customers. We are one of the largest developers by volume of projects focused on poverty alleviation through energy savings and fuel switching. Our team has a collective 50 years of climate finance experience and is at the forefront of Paris-era project finance.

About the role:
UpEnergy is at a time of exciting growth, and rapidly expanding into new geographies and new product categories. One of UpEnergy’s strategic growth areas is the roll-out of a systematic marketing strategy. We seek a junior- to mid-level marketing officer/manager who is experienced and passionate about growing our business and our portfolio of products via the relevant marketing initiatives. This team member will work on marketing projects covering all of our products, has to get his/her hands dirty very quickly while maintaining strategic overview, with a potential option in the mid- to long-term future to specialise in specific products, sales channels or market segments. This role will initially report to the Uganda Country Manager, with a possibility of moving under a separate function or a future stand-alone marketing team. Key Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy

• Research and analyse data to identify and define audiences and marketing needs
• Identify and pilot marketing and branding strategies that will enable the organization’s future expansion either in terms of product, projects, or geography
• Promotional marketing: support the sales team’s promotional marketing efforts to achieve temporary sales objectives when necessary
• Marketing content and materials creation
• Coordinate projects on marketing content and materials creation, such as flyer and user manual design, printing and procurement of flyers or other materials
• Take charge of marketing for multiple products: fuel-efficient cookstove, water filters, and electric pressure cooker, or any other future products/projects that UpEnergy develops
• Create marketing content in an organized and systematic manner, such as but not limited to conducting focus group, using A/B testing to identify the best marketing taglines, pilot-test various materials and reactions from research groups
• Manage and update our social media platforms and any other online marketing channels if applicable
• Align with global and company-level marketing strategy
• Implementation, Monitoring, and Evaluation
• Developing and managing marketing campaigns from start to finish
• Stakeholder management: coordination with other team that are involved in marketing campaign or has other marketing support request
• Independently follow through execution, monitor and evaluate the progress and result of a marketing initiative
• Uphold and maintain our value of ‘operational excellence’ within the marketing function, ensuring that we are doing things in the best way and most cost- or resource-efficient manner
• In charge of reporting and documenting results, make data-driven recommendation and decision
• Ensure that our marketing campaign is within budget and conduct periodic review on marketing resources and cost efficiency. Collaborate with managers to prepare budgets and monitor expenses

Does this sound like you?
• Track record of working in marketing functions, with a minimum of 1 year’s experience for officer level, and 3+ years of experience for a manager level hire
• Preferably a holder of Bachelor’s degree and/or other certifications in business, marketing, communications, or CIM accreditations
• Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
• Display of both qualitative and quantitative skills in marketing
• Proven ability to manage multiple initiatives and projects and the same time, and ability to handle multiple requests coming from different stakeholders
• Excellent knowledge of MS office. Fluency in other marketing software (e.g. CRM) or design software is a plus.
• Creativity and commercial awareness.
• Interest in regular field visit and field work
• Hands on, ability to handle the nitty-gritty while maintaining and strategic overview of UpEnergy’s marketing needs
• Experience working for a social enterprise or other mission-oriented organization is a plus
• Innovative mind‐set oriented toward constructive problem‐solving and collaboration with stakeholders from various sectors
• Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, resourcefulness, and ability to multi‐task and adjust to changing priorities
• Strong understanding of statistical concepts as it relates to project pilot/ implementation/ M&E is a plus
• Self-starter who proactively takes responsibility and ownership of his/her projects, and is excited to be part of UpEnergy’s growth story

Compensation:
The Marketing Officer/ Manager will receive a competitive salary commensurate with experience.
