BRAC has been one of the pioneers of microfinance since it first started in 1974. BRAC first expanded its microfinance operations internationally in 2002 and now operates in six countries outside of Bangladesh - Myanmar, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Together, these six entities serve more than 750,000 clients, 96% of whom are women.

BRAC International Microfinance’s mission is to provide a range of financial services responsibly to people at the bottom of the pyramid. It particularly focuses on women living in poverty in rural and hard-to-reach areas, to create self-employment opportunities, build financial resilience, and harness women’s entrepreneurial spirit by empowering them economically.

BRAC International Microfinance is seeking application from competent, dynamic and selfmotivated individuals to fill the following position:

Job Purpose
This role will lead safeguarding activities for all programs in the country. Responsibilities include: implementing the Safeguarding and sub-set of policies and procedures across the organization, act as the reporting avenue for safeguarding concerns violations: lead the process of ensuring safeguarding risk management is done and safeguarding indicators are mainstreamed in the programme design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and partnerships: lead the case management process ensuring timely reporting of incidents to donors, BRAC international (BI) Head Office affiliates, ensure confidential investigations are done in a timely fashion following a risk assessment of cases, ensure disciplinary actions are implemented and documented by HR , provide survivor support, and lead the mapping of referral services in the country for all programs.

Core Roles and Responsibilities
1. Lead the implementation of the Safeguarding and sub-set of policies by training all the BRAC Uganda staff and build up a pool of trainers to ensure 100% staff, partners, volunteers, consultants and service providers receive training and refreshers on the safeguarding policies, prioritizing AIM project staff and partners;
2. Ensure the country management and programme leads champion safeguarding;
3. Act as the primary reporting avenue for safeguarding related concerns/violations and be the key resource for survivors, ensuring their safety, and security and providing survivor support services in line with a survivor-centered approach
4. Conduct safeguarding risk assessment and integrate safeguarding measures in programs.
5. Lead case management of safeguarding violations ensuring that BRAC Uganda meets its donor obligations to report safeguarding violations without delay
6. Develop the capacity of staff to conduct sensitive investigations and produce high-quality investigation reports, maintaining confidential investigation case files
7. Ensure organizational reporting and response mechanisms are functional, practical and community-friendly.
8. Lead the process of identifying, mapping and regularly updating local support services available to survivors across the country in all the regions where programs operate, prioritizing the AIM project.
9. Maintain the online safeguarding case management system, reviewing incidents submitted and ensure timely follow-up actions.
10. Lead the annual safeguarding budgeting process for BRAC Uganda, monitoring expenditure and follow up actions with support from the Regional and Head Office Safeguarding units
11. Prepare quarterly reports of reported cases for reporting to BI management.
12. Create impactful presentations for senior management on reported cases and trend analysis.
Safeguarding roles
1. Establish a safeguarding culture across all levels of the programme by implementing the safeguarding policy. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
2. Responsible for ensuring team members are appropriately trained, supported and have access to resources regarding issues that are identified and actioned in accordance with the safeguarding policy and procedure.
3. Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.

Educational Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Gender and Women's Studies, Development Studies,
• International Development, Anthropology or any relevant discipline
• Experience Requirements, Skills and Competencies
• At least 5-7 years of experience in the development or humanitarian sector, areas of safeguarding , protection, gender or GBV in any reputed organization Excellent conceptual and analytical skills with regard to safeguarding, Experience of implementing safeguarding policies and practices, Ability to build trust among stakeholders to report safeguarding violations, Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and sensitivity, Knowledge of international standards of safeguarding and ability to implement best practices, Experience of conducting complex and sensitive safeguarding investigations and preparing investigation reports and guiding other teams to do so, Ability to work strategically and practically with multiple stakeholders, Strong facilitation and presentation skills, Experience of designing and delivering training and capable of delivering messages appropriately to a variety of audiences, Clear communication and public speaking skills, Capable of working both individually and as part of a team, Excellent relationship management skills and ability to communicate in all forms (written, verbal, negotiation, presentation skills), Ability to prioritize and deal with competing demands to deliver results, Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills.
