JOB SUMMARY
The Environment & Social Risk Officer is responsible for implementing the E&S Risk framework, regularly review the E&S policy and ensure alignment with UDBL operations and HIGS.

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT
The job holder will be required to devise strategies to mitigate the environmental and social risks in all UDBL’s operations, conduct E&S assessments for the bank funded projects & advise clients on issues regarding compliance to environmental and social standards.

COMMITMENT STATEMENT
The E&S officer shall ensure adherence of the bank to E&S standards in all its operations as well as the funded projects.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assess UDBL’s business and identify the relevant E&S risks.
• Assess the environmental and social risk profile to optimize business growth and make recommendations.
• Make recommendations for formulating Environment and Social risk policies and guidelines that UDBL will follow to comply with E&S requirements.
• Oversee environmental and social risk due diligence.
• Regularly review the framework for the measurement and control of E&S risks.
• Define risk indicators and tools to identify, measure, control and monitor E&S risks.
• Verify and confirm that the system, policies and structures of E&S are working effectively.
• Provide training to staff on environmental and social risk.
• Support the Business teams on advising clients regarding environmental and social issues where relevant.
• Research on environmental and social issues and thematic topics that affect UDBL’s business.
• Analyze and present opportunities and risks inherent in potential UDBL investments.
• Perform regular scenario analyses/stress tests on the environmental Key Risk Indicators to test business resilience in case of adverse events.
• Identify early signals of increasing risk exposure in various areas of UDBL’s operations.
• Ensure that UDBL has appropriate and up-to-date preventive measures as well as measures to minimize the negative effects of such risks in case they happen.

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY
• Recommend E&S risk management strategy, policy changes and standards.
• Issue independent E&S opinions to management on related projects and other establishments or initiatives undertaken by the Bank.

EXPERIENCE & ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
• Minimum of 5 years progressive working experience including 3 years in E&S and good knowledge in other risk control streams.
• Sector specific underwriting specialization and/or experience will be an added advantage.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies or other related field from a reputable education institution.
• Post graduate qualification and professional certification in a related field will be an added advantage.
