On behalf of our client, we are looking for a competent and experienced Electrical Technician to be based in Kampala, Uganda.
Reports To: The Operations Manager
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Job Summary: This role involves installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment to ensure efficient and safe operations. The role also involves reading technical diagrams, performing preventive maintenance, and responding to electrical faults or breakdowns. The Electrical Technician shall work closely with engineers and maintenance teams to support operational requirements, uphold safety standards, and minimize downtime.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and machinery.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure all electrical systems are functioning correctly.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues, identifying root causes and providing effective solutions.
- Utilize testing instruments and equipment to identify faults and ensure proper functioning.
- Repair or replace faulty electrical components, wiring, or equipment to restore normal operation.
- Ensure all repairs comply with safety standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Adhere to safety regulations, electrical codes, and standards to maintain a safe working environment.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow proper lockout/tagout procedures when working on electrical systems.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, repairs, and equipment performance.
- Report any critical issues, potential hazards, or system inefficiencies to the supervisor or manager.
- Work closely with engineers, maintenance teams, and other technical personnel to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicate effectively to ensure all team members are informed about ongoing tasks and safety procedures.
- Assist with the installation of new electrical equipment or systems, ensuring compliance with specifications and safety standards.
- Conduct regular testing and calibration of electrical equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Use appropriate diagnostic tools to check and confirm electrical outputs and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Continuously monitor electrical systems to detect signs of malfunction or performance issues and perform timely troubleshooting.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- A Technical Certification, a Diploma in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Understanding of electrical safety standards, codes, and regulations.
- At least 5 years post qualification experience as an Electrical Technician.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
- Strong knowledge of installing and maintaining electrical systems and components according to safety standards.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve electrical issues quickly and efficiently.
- Attention to detail and the ability to perform tasks with high accuracy.
- Strong understanding of industrial, commercial, or residential electrical systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with other technical staff.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various environmental conditions.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to follow maintenance schedules and meet deadlines.
Barriers to Success in Role
- Limited or lack of technical knowledge about electrical safety standards, codes, and regulations.
- Inability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
