Job summary
The job holder heads the Fundraising and External relations unit within the Business Development Department. As the lead writer for fundraising proposals, bids and reports, the job holder must ensure that the organization maintains a fundraising portfolio big enough to ensure sustainable growth
Role overview: The role coordinates fundraising activities and maintains links between REBDA and stakeholders including donors/funders, partners and sponsors.
Responsibilities and duties (Key results)
New Business Development/Develop fundraising sources opportunities :
• Develop and sustain a deep working knowledge of REBDA’s operating context, model, results and future plans in order to be able the align them with donor requirements.
• Regularly conduct development industry landscape analysis and contact mapping in order to generate a pipeline of donor prospects.
• Compile and maintain a comprehensive database of potential donors (international and local) that captures all relevant information including all administrative aspects of fundraising.
• Develop and maintain contact and a good working relationship with major prospects including regularly monitoring their websites and fundraising portals to identify funding opportunities
• Develop/improve and distribute appropriate donor meeting/communication materials (brochures, posters, annual reports, business cards etc) for promoting the organization's services
• Regularly update the organization’s website and related social media channels with relevant fundraising information and program updates.
• Develop media contacts and publicize the work of REBDA at national and international levels
Grant Proposal writing
• Through a collaborative process, develop project proposals and concept notes and ensure their timely submission. The proposals must have a high bar for quality, detail-orientation and responsiveness with strong logical flow, beneficiary-centric and error-free perspectives.
• Follow-up on submitted project proposals and ascertain the reasons behind the unsuccessful ones for future improvement.
Relationship Management and reporting :
• Maintain good working relationships with existing donors, respond to their requests regularly and keep updating them about the work of the organization with the aim of cultivating and sustaining long term funding and collaboration.
• Coordinate donor field missions including developing meeting agendas and materials, taking notes, working with donors and field teams to develop itineraries and preparing post-visit reports.
• Take part in the developing and maintaining the company’s monitoring and evaluation framework.
• Consolidate and share key sponsorship and fundraising information with stakeholders
• Develop, update and maintain up-to-date project tracking and contract management systems.
• Work with program teams to ensure effective implementation of the successful proposals and timely, accurate and transparent reporting to funders.
Planning and budgeting:
• Assist the Business Development Manager in developing/reviewing fundraising strategies and annual fundraising plans and budgets that are aligned to the strategies.
• Develop, periodically revise and regularly share fundraising income projections to inform affiliate plans and budget management decisions
Team Coordination and capacity building
• Coordinate fundraising team meetings to enhance staff productivity, innovation and performance (e.g facilities, equipment, tools/templates, duty facilitation, team building)
• Provide training, coaching and mentorship for staff to enhance performance levels
Qualification
Must possess a minimum of Bachelor's degree in any business or development related field.
Required(must have) skills
The job holder must possess demonstrable skills in;
• Writing proposals, bid documents and reports for reputable non-profit, bilateral or multilateral organizations
• Collecting and analysing data using packages like SPPS, STATA etc.
• Preparing and making presentations to executive-level audiences using Power Point
• Speaking to and moving/convincing big audiences
• Making illustrations and graphics using appropriate computer programs e.g desktop publishing
The job holder must also demonstrate a high level of English fluency, strong understanding of business language and a genuine passion for improving the livelihoods of rural and urban poor.
Minimum Experience
• A minimum 2 years of total professional experience in designing or implementing development projects at least 1 (one) of which must be in agribusiness sector.
• A minimum of 1 years of writing grant proposals/bid documents and reporting or managing grant projects in a recognized non-profit, bilateral or multilateral organization. Must share at least 1 proposal sample that demonstrate ability to write proposals that are highly readable, very clear and concise, with a logical flow of ideas and deriving power from simplicity rather than jargon.
