The American Refugee Committee (ARC) works with its partners and constituencies to provide opportunities and expertise to refugees, displaced people and host communities – to better survive conflicts and crisis, and to rebuild lives of dignity, health, security and self-sufficiency. ARC presently works in and with partners in ten countries globally. ARC has been operational in Uganda since 1994, and today has a strong and committed team of over 130 regular, full time national staff and partners. The overall goal of the Uganda program is to improve the well-being and self-reliance of the displaced refugee populations by ensuring the provision of basic services (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene; Community Services; SGBV/Protection; Child protection; Mental Health & Psychosocial support), currently in six refugee settlements - Nakivale, Oruchinga, Kyaaka II, Kyagwali, Bidi Bidi and Palabek - in Uganda. ARC is looking for competent, qualified, self-driven and committed individuals to be part of and contribute to accomplishing our ambitious and exciting 2018/2019 programming – several challenging full time positions, across the various refugee settlement sites as well as at the ARC main office – Kampala, Uganda:

Job Title: Livelihoods Officer (5 positions)
Location: Nakivale – 1 position, Bidi Bidi – 1 position, Kyangwali- 1 position, Kyaaka II – 1 position and Oruchinga – 1 position.

Job Summary
The Livelihoods Officer will serve as the site-level lead on all ARC refugee and host community livelihoods sector activities, ensuring that livelihoods activities are conducted as planned, present real and sustainable opportunities to refugees and host communities, and retain links with local and regional markets in a bid to increase sustainability and scalability of ARC livelihoods activities, particularly business development and promotion.

Minimum qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Community or Rural Development, Agricultural Development, Business, or related field. Master’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred;
• At least five (5) years working experience in Livelihoods programming, micro-enterprise development, market-oriented livelihoods promotion, and other innovative approaches to humanitarian livelihoods service delivery is an advantage;
• Experience contributing to livelihoods strategy development and proposal writing preferred; Knowledge of VSLA, SACCO, and other savings and loan models is essential;
• Must be fluent in written and spoken English. Language skills of populations that ARC serves (e.g. Kiswahili, Luo, Nuer, Kinyarwanda, Arabic Somali, etc.)
• Motorbike riding experience and permit preferable.
