About BRAC

We work with communities in marginalized situations, hard-to-reach areas and post-disaster settings across Asia and Africa, with a particular focus on women youth, children and the households where they live. We are intentional to deliver long-term community-led holistic approaches which we implement to the last mile in order to impact communities at scale.

About the project
BRAC Uganda in partnership with MasterCard Foundation supported over 5,000 young people to complete secondary education. Of these, about 2,575 transitioned to tertiary education. It can be said that over 2500 of the alumni did not transition to tertiary education. Regardless of whether these young people transitioned to tertiary education or not, with the transition rate into the world of work for Ugandan youth standing at 24%. The end line evaluation report for the scholarship program showed that about 24% out of the 5445 scholars were engaged in some professional or semi-professional vocation or enterprise, a significant number of the scholars were not able to transition into the world of dignified employment. The Scholars’ Transition Entrepreneurship Fund is intended to contribute towards more of the Alumni to transition into the world of gainful and dignified employment through entrepreneurship as a pathway.

Job Purpose
The manager will provide leadership, direction and management of the Scholars’ Transition Entrepreneurship Fund project of BRAC Uganda; including the design and implementation of the project ensuring overall project related management functions are timely delivered, The core objective is to provide opportunities for young people through a combination of social and economic empowerment activities to ensure MasterCard Foundation Alumni at BRAC Uganda (MFABU) transition into the world of gainful and dignified employment through entrepreneurship as a pathway.

Duties and Responsibilities.
• Strategic and quality planning, development, and management of the project with adherence to the monitoring system.
• Ensure financial viability of the project, strategic partnerships and resource mobilization as well as compliance to the finance and audit guidelines.
• Attract, build and manage highly motivated, competent and result oriented staff and leaders for effective project delivery.
• Quality planning, and management of the Scholars’ Transition Entrepreneurship Fund with adherence to the monitoring system.
• Ensure financial viability of the project, strategic partnerships and resource mobilization as well as compliance to the audit guidelines.
• Boost knowledge management, communication and visibility of the project.
• Attract, build and manage highly motivated, competent and result oriented staff and leaders for effective delivery in the project.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:
• Uphold the BRAC vision, mission, core values and policies including an effective safeguarding policy.
• Establish a safeguarding culture across all levels by implementing BRAC safeguarding policies. Responsible to ensure team members are appropriately trained, supported, and have access to resources regarding issues that are identified and actioned in accordance with the safeguarding policy and procedure.
• Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.

Job specifications
• The successful candidate should have a master’s degree in education/ social sciences/ Development/ studies / in a related field.
• A Postgraduate qualification in relevant field such as project planning and Management/ entrepreneurship/ youth development is an added advantage.
• At least 5 years’ work experience in an Education or Youth empowerment related field, 3 of which should be in a similar position in a recognized NGO setting, Excellent project planning, project design and development, proposal writing skills, as well as monitoring, budgeting
• Ability to create and sustain long term partnerships with other development actors including other international agencies, donors, and government, Excellent communication skills (both written and spoken) including report writing and oral presentations.
